Lawrence "Baby Doll" Sorrels

Lawrence "Baby Doll" Sorrels, 74 of Beaver Dam, Kentucky, formerly of Rochester, Kentucky,  passed away Monday, June 30, 2014 at the Medical Center in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Lawrence was born on Monday, March 25, 1940 in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky to the late Wilbur and Dovie Brown Sorrels. He was a member of Rochester Missionary Baptist Church, retired from P&M Coal Company as a under ground coal miner, member of the Coal UMWA and worked at the Rochester Water Department until its closing. Lawrence is preceded in death by his parents and one brother Louis Sorrels.

Charles Hugh Whitaker Sr.

Charles Hugh Whitaker Sr., 78, of  Morgantown, Ky. passed away Saturday, June 28, 2014 at the his residence  in Morgantown.  Charles was born June 27, 1936,  in Butler County, to the late Volentine and Mary Harper Whitaker.  He was a member of  Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist  Church.  He worked  as a gas station attendant for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Billy Whitaker, sister Hilda Kirby and Brother Kenneth Cartwright.

April L. Phelps, 55 of Morgantown, Kentucky passed away Thursday, June 26, 2014 at her residence. April was born Wednesday, April 15, 1959 in Butler County, Kentucky to the late Chester and Gussie Kinkade Phelps. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and retired from Sun Products. She was preceded in death by one brother David Huguenot.

Michael G. "Mick" Kelley Sr. 60 of Morgantown, Ky. passed away Wednesday June 25, 2014 at his residence. Mick was born Thursday June 3, 1954 in Louisville Kentucky to the late Glendon Kelley and Betty Mitchell Evans. He was a member of Mt Vernon Missionary Baptist Church and a retired truck driver.

Thomas Cook

Thomas David Cook, 73, of  Morgantown, Kentucky, passed away Monday, June 23, 2014 at the Hospice House in Bowling Green, Ky. Thomas was born May 8, 1941  in Webster County, to the late Sterling Clifton and Lana Overby Cook.  He attended  Aberdeen  Missionary Baptist Church.  Mr. Cook was a  Federal Mine Inspector,  loved playing golf and was an avid UK basketball fan.   He was preceded in death by his parents and one son Christopher Thomas Cook.

Carole Brown, 66, of Morgantown, Kentucky passed away Monday, June 23, 2014, at her residence in Morgantown. Carole was born April 2, 1948, in Jefferson County, Kentucky to the late Bob Snodgrass and Pat Snodgrass, who survives. She was a founding member of The Church of Nazarene in Morgantown, founder of Subway of Morgantown, and former children's librarian at the Butler County Library.

Doris Lee Applin Belcher

Doris Lee Applin Belcher, 87, of Sugar Grove, Ky. passed away Saturday, June 21, 2014 at her residence.  Doris was born July 22, 1926 in Butler County, to the late John and Evelyn Lee Applin.  She was a member of Sugar Grove Methodist Church, Garden Club and the Midway Homemakers Club.  She was a homemaker and a seamstress and enjoyed taking care of her flowers and sewing, quilting and crocheting.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Thornton Rudolph Belcher, her parents John and Evelyn Applin, one son Gary Belcher and a brother Richard Applin.

Etta Mae Newton

Etta Mae Newton, 72 of Morgantown, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, June 19, 2014 at the Morgantown Care and Rehab. Etta was born Sunda, March 1, 1942 in Meade County Kentucky to the late Ernest Horton and Wanda Kendell Thompson and wife of the late James P. "Jimmy" Newton. She was a member of Temple Hill General Baptist Church and owner and operator of Howards Bakery. Other than her parents and husband she is preceded in death by one daughter Rita Newton and two brothers Jimmy Horton and Eugene Horton.

Wilbur Estill McKinney

Wilbur Estill McKinney, 80, of  Morgantown, Ky. passed away Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at the Morgantown Care and Rehab Center in Morgantown.   Wilbur was born Jan. 9, 1934  in Butler County, to the late Estill and Gertie Ann Pate McKinney.  He was a member of  Cool Springs General Baptist Church since 1975.  He worked for Chrysler, B&R and then worked and  retired from Kellwood of many years. Wilbur was known as the birdman of Butler County. He enjoyed building bird houses and fishing.

Harlan Gale Dunning, 61, of Greenville, died Monday, June 16, 2014, at 5:07 AM at the University of Louisville Hospital. Mr. Dunning was born on June 27, 1952 in Muhlenberg County and was a farmer.
