February BCNSDAR Celebrates Presidents Day, American Heart and African- American History

Butler County Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution meets every 4th Thursday at the Butler County Public Library . This month we will begin at 5:30 for our meeting,  after which we will adjourn for our speaker, Roger Givens. Roger will be speaking about his latest book, African-American Life in Butler County,  a timely topic. We are delighted to have him, once again, join us as he is also a member of the Samuel Duncan Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution.
This month we will also install officers for 2014-2016.

EXTENSION CELEBRATES 100 YEARS OF NUTRITION EDUCATION

Times may change but for the past 100 years, families in Kentucky have looked to Cooperative Extension Service to learn better ways to be healthy. Starting in 1914, home demonstration agents brought the latest research to farm kitchens or outdoor canning clubs, showing new ways to preserve garden produce to prevent foodborne illness. During World War II, growing good food and using nutrition to keep soldiers and the home front healthy was patriotic priority for both home demonstration agents and the families they served.

Butler Co. ATC Automotive Program Students Receive ASE Awards

Mr. Collins, Automotive Instructor, is pleased to announce that three student received their ASE industry certification. ASE stands for Automotive Service of Excellence award. In the Automotive field; this is standardized testing that the majority of employers look for when hiring an Automotive Technician.   There are eight tests available in the auto technician field that is required to become a Master Certified ASE technician. A Mastered Certified ASE Tech is equivalent of a doctorate in our industry.

Morgantown Elementary Spelling Bee Winners

Morgantown Elementary held their school wide Spelling Bee this week.  Hayden Hodge took first place in the intermediate division and will advance to the District Bee.

Evamarie is looking for a Forever Family.

Evamarie (12/96) is a very spirited, creative, and fun teenager! She loves writing, art, dancing and music. She has successfully organized two costume Halloween parties for her peers! She also enjoys playing video games and reading mystery novels. She would love to travel, and would particularly like to go to Gatlinburg, Tennessee. A caring person by nature, Evamarie likes to be a good role model for those around her. Expressing her spiritual beliefs is very important and as a result she needs a family who would support this.

Butler County 4-H Country Ham Breakfast Rescheduled for President’s Day, February 17th

Come join Butler County 4-H for a delicious Country Ham Breakfast at the Butler County Cooperative Extension Service on President’s Day, Monday, February 17th from 7 a.m. – 11 a.m. We'll have all the fixings and a cozy spot for everyone to enjoy! Pre-sale breakfast tickets are available for $5.00 now, or $6.00 at the door. All presold tickets (prior to the cancellation due to inclement weather) will be honored at this rescheduled time.  Various 4-Her's have tickets available, or you can stop by the Extension Office for your breakfast tickets today!

Chili Supper and Rook Tournment

The 2nd District Volunteer Fire Department, at 62 Fire Station Lane in the Davis Crossroads Community, is hosted a Chili Supper and Rook Tournament on Saturday, Februray 22.  Chili supper begins at 5pm with a Rook Tournment to follow at approximately 6pm.  $5 plate includes chili, hot dog, dessert & drink.  Rook Tournament is $10 per team entry fee and 50/50 payout for first place.  All proceeds to benefit 2nd district Volunteer Fire Department.  For more information call Ronnie 270 999-1460 or David "Possum" 270 791-6598
