Jo Jo Jennings: Judge Executive

North Butler Elementary  student Jo Jo Jennings recently won the privilege of becoming Butler County Judge Executive for a day. Jennings arrived dressed for the job, took his seat in the executive office and signed in his first proclamation mere moments after arriving. The proclamation declared hat day at North Butler Elementary School. Following this, David Fields gave Jennings a tour of the Butler County  Courthouse.

BCMS Conservation Writing Contest Finalists

Butler County Middle School 6th grade students have been working diligently for the last few weeks on writing pieces for the 2013 Conservation Writing Contest sponsored by the Kentucky Division of Conservation. This years Writing Contest was entitled Mission: H2O and challenged the students to consider an area of water that was important to them, their families and community.
Students completed research about water and its importance in everyday life and wrote persuasive letters encouraging others to conserve and preserve the water supply.

Festival of Trees serves as backdrop for luncheon and dinner

 The Winter Wonderland, a.k.a Festival of Trees, hosted a luncheon and dinner last week.  The ladies of the Butler County Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution hosted a luncheon on Tuesday to welcome DAR State Regent Barbara Glass Zink to Morgantown.

Former Miss Butler County prepares for journey as bone marrow donor

When Jayme Pharis happened across a four-leaf clover on an October morning earlier this fall, she had a feeling a wave of good luck was coming her way.
Moments later, she got a phone call with life-changing implications.
Pharis, a Leitchfield senior, didn’t recognize the number but felt compelled to answer anyway.
The caller asked Pharis for her birthdate and if she remembered signing up for the bone marrow registry in April 2012.
“I thought she was going to ask me if I wanted to donate a dollar,” Pharis laughed.

Sons of the American Revolution will host a wreath laying ceremony

The Charles Duncan Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution will host a wreath laying ceremony at 9:30 A.M., Saturday, December 7, at the Butler County Courthouse lawn near the memorial monuments. The event is on the anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor, but will honor all those who served in all the wars. The American Legion Post 151 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5837 and the Ladies Auxiliary will participate in the event.
