Lady Bears drop district game to Grayson County

MORGANTOWN - Homestanding Butler County fell short as Grayson County held on to win 69-63 in a 12th District girls' basketball game on Friday, Feb. 5.

Visiting Grayson County moved ahead early and carried a lead out of each quarter. 

Taylor Leach led Butler County, scoring a game-high 18 points for the Lady Bears. 

Joining Leach in double figures in scoring for Butler County, Taylin Clark added 12 points.

Lady Bears notch district win over Whitesville Trinity

WHITESVILLE - Visiting Butler County pulled away to beat Whitesville Trinity 47-35 in a 12th District girls' basketball game on Friday, Jan. 29.

The win allowed Butler County to move to 3-0 overall and open 1-0 in the 12th District. 

Butler County shot 38.2 percent (21-of-55) from the field. The Lady Bears were 1-of-5 from 3-point range.

Butler County finished 4-of-10 from the free throw line. 

Controlling the backboards, Butler County outrebounded Whitesville Trinity 41-22.

Bears pull away to beat Grayson County, 65-54

MORGANTOWN - Breaking into the win column, Butler County pulled away to beat visiting Grayson County 65-54 in a 12th District boys' basketball game on Monday, Jan. 25.

After notching the win, Butler County improved to 1-4 overall and 1-1 in the 12th District.

Grayson County dropped to 5-3 overall and 2-1 in the district following the loss. 

Butler County shook a slow start to claim the district win. Starting strong, Grayson County outscored Butler County 20-13 in the first quarter. The Cougars led 39-31 at halftime but faltered late.

Initial basketball stat leader reports released

LEXINGTON - The first statistical leader reports of the 2020-21 season for girls’ and boys’ basketball have been posted at KHSAA.org. The leader reports will be updated every day at approximately 3 a.m., and will include all teams missing stats for no more than two games.

Lady Bears open season 2-0

MORGANTOWN - Butler County is off to a 2-0 start in the 2020-21 girls' high school basketball season.

The Lady Bears, under the direction of assistant coach Zeke Woodcock, pulled away to beat visiting Beth Haven 69-16 in a girls' high school basketball season opener on Saturday, Jan. 16. 

Remaining in the win column two days later, Butler County upended host Allen County-Scottsville 45-34 on Monday Jan. 18.

Bears come up short to Edmonson County in overtime

BROWNSVILLE - Visiting Butler County faltered as Edmonson County pulled away to win 65-59 in overtime in a 12th District boys' basketball game on Friday, Jan. 22.

With the loss, Butler County dropped to 0-4 overall and opened 0-1 in the 12th District.

Butler County shot 33.3 percent (24-of-72) from the field. The Bears were 7-of-31 from 3-point range.

Butler County shot 66.7 percent (4-of-6) from the free throw line. 

Solomon Flener led Butler County with a double-double, scoring 23 points and pulling down 11 rebounds.

Bears fall to Central Kentucky Homeschool

OWENSBORO - Butler County was unable to land in the win column over the weekend as Central Kentucky Homeschool held on to win 72-68 in the Agrigold Winter Classic at Owensboro Sportscenter on Saturday, Jan. 16. 
With the loss, Butler County dropped to 0-2.

MORGANTOWN - Butler County fell behind early and couldn't recover from its slow start as Owensboro pulled away to win 84-55 in a boys' high school basketball season opener on Monday, Jan. 4.

MORGANTOWN - Reigning 12th District champion Butler County is ranked seventh in the BluegrassPreps.com 3rd Region Boys' Basketball Rankings.

The Calvin Dockery-coached Bears are ranked ahead of Breckinridge County (8), Hancock County (9), Grayson County (10), Apollo (11), Edmonson County (12), McLean County (13), Whitesville Trinity (14) and Cloverport (15). Butler County is listed behind Daviess County (6), Meade County (5), Ohio County (4), Muhlenberg County (3), Owensboro Catholic (2) and top-ranked Owensboro (1).
