Lady Bears edge Edmonson County for district win

BROWNSVLLLE - Determined Butler County edged homestanding Edmonson County 66-65 in a 12th District girls' basketball game on Monday, March 1. 

The Lady Bears battled back to win after Edmonson County led 41-24 at halftime. 

Prior to faltering, Edmonson County led 60-46 at the conclusion of the third quarter. 

Butler County shot 41.9 percent (26-of-62) from the field in the win. The Lady Bears were 4-of-14 from 3-point range.

Butler County finished 10-of-28  from the free throw line.

Balanced Bears clobber Cloverport, 65-17

CLOVERPORT - Returning to the win column, Butler County clobbered host Cloverport 65-17 in a boys' high school basketball game on Tuesday, March 2.

With the win, Butler County improved to 4-7.

Cloverport dropped to 1-17 with the loss. 

Butler County shot 46 percent (29-of-63) from the field. The Bears were 5-of-21 (23.8 percent) from 3-point range.

Butler County finished 2-of-11 from the free throw line.

Dominating inside, Butler County outrebounded Cloverport 47-15.

Butler County defeats Foundation Christian Academy, 79-38

MORGANTOWN - Returning to the win column, Butler County rolled past visiting Foundation Christian Academy 79-38 in a boys' high school basketball game on Thursday, Feb. 25.

With the win, Butler County improved to 3-5.

Foundation Christian Academy dropped to 0-11 with the loss. 

Butler County shot 58.3 percent (35-of-60) from the field. The Bears were 3-of-14 from 3-point range.

Butler County shot 50 percent (6-of-12) from the free throw line. 

Dominating on the backboards, Butler County outrebounded Foundation Christian Academy 47-15.

MORGANTOWN - Butler County continued to win at the start of the week, defeating visiting Logan County 44-34 in a girls' high school basketball game on Monday, Feb. 22.
With the win, Butler County improved to 5-4. 
Logan County dropped to 1-17 with the loss. 
Butler County led 24-20 at halftime. Stretching its lead after the intermission period, Butler County led 37-29 at the conclusion of the third quarter.

Bears outlast Whitesville Trinity for district win

 

MORGANTOWN - Following a lengthy layoff, Butler County outlasted visiting Whitesville Trinity 57-53 in a 12th District boys' basketball game on Monday, Feb. 22. 

With the win, Butler County improved to 2-4 overall and 2-1 in the 12th District. 

Whitesville Trinity dropped to 5-10 overall and 1-3 in the district with the loss.

Hunters produced another top-five total deer harvest in Kentucky during the latest season

FRANKFORT - Amid the worldwide pandemic, hunters in Kentucky turned to the woods and fields during the annual deer season to lift their spirits and produced another top-five total deer harvest.

Deer hunters not only bring home healthy venison for their families and help keep the deer population in check, but they also contribute heartily to Kentucky’s economy. Each year, deer hunting generates over $550 million in economic impact through retail expenditures, yields over $86 million in tax revenues to sustain public services and supports more than 13,000 jobs in the Commonwealth.

Butler County knocks off Whitesville Trinity

WHITESVILLE - Visiting Butler County knocked off Whitesville Trinity 60-41 in a 12th District girls' basketball game on Monday, Feb. 8.

The win allowed Butler County to even its overall record to 4-4.

Whitesville Trinity dropped to 2-7 with the loss.

Butler County featured three scorers in double figures. 

Jaelyn Taylor scored 21 points to pace the Lady Bears.

Accompanying Taylor in double figures in scoring for Butler County, Taylin Clark netted 12 points and Taylor Leach contributed 10 points.

Warriors drop two at 14th-ranked Wallace State

Hanceville, Ala. – After a shaky start, the Wabash Valley softball team took the 14th-ranked team in the country to the mat before surrendering the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Only after a three-run sixth inning did Wallace State (6-0) remain undefeated, earning a sweep of Wednesday's doubleheader with a 5-3 win. The Lions had a much easier time of things in the opener, winning 17-2.

"We took a lot of positives from the second game," said Warriors' coach Asa Deffendall, in his second season at the helm. "We hope to build from there."
