Bears outlast Whitesville Trinity for district win

 

MORGANTOWN - Following a lengthy layoff, Butler County outlasted visiting Whitesville Trinity 57-53 in a 12th District boys' basketball game on Monday, Feb. 22. 

With the win, Butler County improved to 2-4 overall and 2-1 in the 12th District. 

Whitesville Trinity dropped to 5-10 overall and 1-3 in the district with the loss. 

Butler County shot 41.3 percent (19-of-46) from the field. The Bears were 6-of-18 from 3-point range, shooting 33.3 percent beyond the arc.

Butler County shot 68.4 percent (13-of-19) from the free throw line. 

Jagger Henderson led Butler County offensively, scoring 18 points for the Bears. Henderson was 8-of-10 from the free throw line.

Delivering a double-double for Butler County, Leevi McMillin netted 12 points and pulled down 14 rebounds. 

Narrowly missing double figures in scoring for Butler County, Lawson Rice added nine points.

Following Rice, Braden Dockery (seven points), Brody Hunt (five points), Colton Tichenor (three points) and Luke Laughing (three points) provided the additional scoring for Butler County in the hard-fought district win. 

 

Bears drop home game to South Warren

MORGANTOWN - Butler County fell behind and couldn't battle back as visiting South Warren pulled away to win 76-55 in a boys' high school basketball game on Tuesday, Feb. 23.

With the loss, Butler County dropped to 2-5.

South Warren improved to 10-4 with the win. 

Butler County shot 43.1 percent (22-of-51) from the field. The Bears were 9-of-24 (37.5 percent) from 3-point range. 

Butler County finished 2-of-6 from the free throw line. 

Jagger Henderson scored 17 points to pace the Bears. Henderson was 3-of-7 from 3-point range.

Accompanying Henderson in double figures in scoring for the Bears, Leevi McMillin and Brody Hunt netted 10 points apiece. 

The additional scorers for Butler County in the setback were Lawson Rice (eight points), Isaac Dockery (five points), Colton Tichenor (three points) and Luke Laughing (two points). 

Longtime rivals, Butler County and South Warren met for the first time in the 2020-21 boys' high school basketball season.
