GIRLS' HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Butler County rolls past Apollo 61-33

OWENSBORO — Butler County pulled away to defeat 3rd Region rival Apollo 61-33 in a girls' high school basketball season opener on Tuesday, Dec. 3. 

The Lady Bears started strong, outscoring Apollo 29-7 in the opening quarter.

Butler County, which won on the road, led 40-12 at halftime and remained in control throughout the second half.

The Lady Bears led 55-26 at the conclusion of the third quarter.

Bears ranked 12th in State

MORGANTOWN — Reigning 3rd Region champion Butler County is ranked 12th in the Courier-Journal Preseason Boys' High School Basketball Top 25 Rankings.

The Bears are ranked ahead of Bowling Green, Covington Catholic, DuPont Manual, Cooper, Lexington Catholic, South Laurel, Jeffersontown, Warren Central, Calloway County, South Oldham, Harlan County, Evangel Christian and Henry Clay.

Price, Rice sign during ceremony

MORGANTOWN — Butler County teammates Ty Price and Lawson Rice are headed to the next level. 
Both Price and Rice signed a national letter of intent during a ceremony at the Butler County High School gym on Tuesday, Nov. 19.

Morgantown Elementary Archery Team earned second place at the Bristow Bears tournament on Saturday, November 16. Congratulations to the following individual awards:

BCMS Cheerleading Team finishes runner-up in 3rd Region

OWENSBORO — The Butler County Middle School cheerleading team finished runner-up in the 3rd Region Super Large Division on Sunday, Nov. 17.
Teams from across the 3rd Region competed in various divisions.
The Butler County Middle School cheerleading team has made solid progress throughout its latest season.

Harbaugh, Hooten named to Class 2A All-State Team

Case Hooten and Ryder Harbaugh

MORGANTOWN — Butler County runners Ryder Harbaugh and Case Hooten have been named to the KTCCCA Boys' Cross Country Class 2A All-State Team.

The Kentucky Track and Cross Country Coaches Association (KTCCCA) honored Harbaugh and Hooten. 

Both Harbaugh and Hooten excelled for Butler County throughout the 2024 boys' high school cross country season.

Harbaugh placed 12th out of 260 runners to lead Butler County in the KHSAA Class 2A State Cross Country Meet on Saturday, Nov. 2.

MES Archery takes first place

The Morgantown Elementary School Archery Team took 1st place at the Drakes Creek Fun Shoot on November 9. The following individuals took top awards:  

James Bechel, 3rd Place Elementary boys

Cora Phelps, 2nd place Elementary girls

Ella Johnson, 1st place Elementary girls

Next tournament: November 25 at Ephram White in Bowling Green.  Ten-meter shoots at 10:15 am and 3D shoots at 11:30 am.

Harbaugh places 12th, Butler County finishes 26th in state meet

LEXINGTON — Butler County finished 26th out of 34 boys' teams in the KHSAA Class 2A State Cross Country Meet at the Kentucky Horse Park on Saturday, Nov. 2. 

Senior Ryder Harbaugh placed 12th out of 260 runners to lead Butler County in the KHSAA Class 2A State Cross Country Meet.

Accompanying his teammate in the Top 25, Case Hooten placed 24th for the Bears.

Bears notch win over Ohio County

HARTFORD — Returning to the win column, Butler County beat longtime rival Ohio County 21-7 in its season finale on Friday, Nov. 1. 

The win allowed Butler County to halt a nine-game losing skid. 

Butler County claimed its first win in the 2024 high school football season. The Bears exited the 2024 high school football season 1-9.
