Green River Regional Educational Cooperative Named Race to the Top-District Competition Winner

 U.S. Rep. Ed Whitfield, (KY-01), Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Energy and Power, announced that the Green River Regional Educational Cooperative was named by the U.S. Department of Education a winner in the Race to the Top-District Competition.

School Bd Recognizes Students, Reviews Test Scores

The Butler County Board of Education met in regular session on Tuesday night at the Butler County Education Complex. The board was called to order, approved the agenda and minutes of the November meeting.

Eric Elms gave the treasurer’s report:
Beginning Balance: $549,191.19
Receipts: $1,910,749.75
Expenses:  $1,230,325.99
Ending Balances:  $1,229,614.95

Magistrates fill vacant board seats, approve budgets at Fiscal Court Meeting

The Butler County Fiscal Court met in its regular meeting for December on Monday morning at the Green River Museum in Woodbury. All members except 5th District Magistrate Keith Daugherty were in attendance, along with the county attorney and several visitors.

On Thursday, December 6, 2012, Butler County Middle School sent four groups to Western Kentucky University for the STLP (Student Technology Leadership Program) Regional Showcase Competition.

Wilson Appointed Chairman of the Senate Education Committee

 The Leadership of the Senate Majority has appointed Senator Mike Wilson (R-Bowling Green) Chairman of the Senate Education Committee. As chairman of a committee, Sen Wilson will decide in what order bills are considered and who will be invited to speak on behalf of issues in front of the committee.

Butler County Farm Bureau Recognized

The Butler County Farm Bureau was recognized for outstanding membership and program achievement during the recent 93rd Kentucky Farm Bureau annual meeting in Louisville.  Betty Farris, center, accepts the award from David S. Radio Auction Nets $8,500 for Boys & Girls Club

More Members, More Often Award

The Annual Boys & Girls Club Radio auction raised $8,500 for the club on Saturday.  The auction was hosted by Morgantown Bank & Trust and WLBQ 1570 Beech Tree Radio. 

“We are very pleased with the auction and I want to thank everyone involved and the people that called in to bid,” said Debra Hall, Club Director. “The money will support the day to day operations of the Club.”

Butler County students featured in Kentucky Farm Bureau's “Science in Agriculture” displays

Eighth grade student Katherine Rice (left) and seventh grader Taya Strasburger (right), who both attend Butler County Middle School, are presented with an award of recognition by Betty Farris, First Vice Chair of the Kentucky Farm Bureau Women’s Committee (center), for their participation in the 2012 Science in Agriculture program.

Two Butler County middle school students, Katherine Rice and Taya Strasburger, were among the nine students selected from across the state to display their agriculture science projects at this week’s Kentucky Farm Bureau annual meeting in Louisville.

Rice, an eighth grade student, and Strasburger, a seventh grader, both attend Butler County Middle School in Morgantown. Their project, was entitled and explored the “Most Common Horse Diseases and Their Prevention.”

Planning & Zoning Commission

The Morgantown Planning and Zoning Commission held their regular meeting on Tuesday, December 4, at the Eva J. Hawes Agriculture Exposition and Community Center Building.  Planning and Zoning Administrator, Glendal Deweese, as well as members Danny Cardwell, Patty Craig, Hobart Flener Jr., and Bryan Locke were in attendance.  The agenda was presented and approved and the minutes from the November 13, 2012 meeting were read and approved.

Special Called Fiscal Court Meeting

The Butler County Fiscal Court held a special called meeting on Tuesday evening in the auxiliary courtroom behind the Judge-Executive’s office in the courthouse. All members were present along with County Attorney Dick Deye and a visitor.

The first item on the agenda was payments from the Litter Abatement Program. Receiving payments were; BCHS Future Farmers of America-$600, Boy Scouts Troop #537-$600, 5th District Volunteer Fire Department-$600, Provo Rural Development-$643, and Cub Scout Pack#537-$612.50.
