Wilson Appointed Chairman of the Senate Education Committee

 The Leadership of the Senate Majority has appointed Senator Mike Wilson (R-Bowling Green) Chairman of the Senate Education Committee. As chairman of a committee, Sen Wilson will decide in what order bills are considered and who will be invited to speak on behalf of issues in front of the committee.

Wilson stated, “As someone with a long-term concern in education, it is a distinct honor and pleasure for me to represent the educational community and all its myriad interests, the children being the most important, in the state senate. My counties are an education center in the state and I am humbled by this appointment.”

The Education Committee is charged with overseeing matters pertaining to elementary, secondary, and postsecondary education; the Kentucky Board of Education; the Department of Education; the powers and duties of local boards of education; state support of education; operation of school districts; conduct of schools; attendance; curriculum; pupil transportation; school property and buildings; teachers' qualifications, certification, and retirement; vocational education and rehabilitation; state universities and colleges; community colleges; regional education; and educational television.
