DAR 2012 Holiday Tour

The home of Becky and Travis Vincent

It is once again time for the Butler County DAR Holiday Tour on Sunday, December 2, 2012 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00. One home on the tour is that of Becky and Travis Vincent located at 3199 Carson Bridge Road off US Highway 231 South. This home of approximately 4000 square feet was built by contractor Darrell Sweets during the winter of 2011-2012 and includes two stories and a basement. The main floor of the home is complete with hardwood flooring and is furnished in a primitive style with mostly earth tones. There is an 18 foot fireplace that runs from floor to ceiling in the living room.

$4,439 Raised for Morgantown Mission Food Boxes

“THANK YOU, THANK YOU to all the individuals, groups, and organizations that donated to the Morgantown Mission. We had a need and God provided,” said Garry McKinney, director of the Morgantown Mission. 
 As of Tuesday afternoon the total amount raised by the WLBQ 1570am radio fund raiser was $4,439, which equals 147 boxes of food for those in need during the holidays.

Butler County Education Preservation Annual Festival of Trees 5th Year Ready to Open!

Ladies of the Butler County Education Preservation Society have been busy the past two months transforming Cousin Don’s into a winter wonderland to show case BCEPS annual fund raiser The Festival of Trees. We want to first extend our thanks to Don and Joan Baker for letting us transform Cousin Dons and their support.

This is our fifth year and, last year, we had 60 trees! Trees are put-up for your family, business, organization or church. The theme for the trees is only limited by one’s imagination and Society ladies are glad to help out with ideas!

Butler Co. Middle School DARE Graduation

The Butler County Middle School 6th Grade DARE Graduation Ceremony was held on Friday, November 9, 2012. B.C.M.S. Students were treated to some very special presentations before the graduation ceremony began.


The Kentucky State Police Bomb Squad Unit explained to the students the importance of this special unit and demonstrated the uniform and special equipment that they use.

Butler County Test Scores

The Kentucky Department of Education has released the results of the new statewide assessment system, Unbridled Learning accountability tests.  This new accountability system is based on a more rigorous system of working toward college and career readiness, and also uses components such as achievement, gap, growth, and graduation rate, rather than a determination of students’ basic skill levels in subjects like math and reading.

Butler County's Special Taxing Districts

State Auditor Adam Edelen

Kentucky State Auditor Adam Edelen released information yesterday about the special taxing districts across the Commonwealth.    There are 1,268 special taxing districts in Kentucky and at least one in every county.  Totally the districts have revenues and spend $2.7 billion; that exceeds the amount the state spends each year to educate school children and spends on highways.

The Butler County Fiscal Court had its monthly meeting for November on Tuesday night. The meeting was rescheduled from Monday, November 12th because of the Veteran’s Day observance. All members were present along with several visitors. Because the meeting wasn’t regularly scheduled, the agenda was not open for additions, but visitor comments and questions were welcomed.
