Quality Christmas Parade 2013

 

The Quality community held their 11th Annual Christmas Parade on Saturday.  With over 30 entries Highway 106 was packed with spectators.  Santa made an appearance along with tractors, classic vehicles, fire trucks, and Butler County High School NJROTC to mention a few.  Enjoy the pictures, it was a great parade….

BCMS evacuated due to bomb threat

At approximately 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 17, a possible bomb threat was discovered at Butler County Middle School.  Law enforcement officials were immediately notified and all students were evacuated to the Morgantown Elementary gymnasium.  Butler County Sheriff's Deputies and officers with the Morgantown Police Department have been searching the building.  The threat was apparently written on a bathroom wall. Parents were notified by the school's one-call system.  Middle school students were released on bus runs, walkers, and by parent pick-ups from M.E.S.

Council approves website bid from Yellowberri

The Morgantown City Council on Thursday night approved Yellowberri to build the new city website on a unanimous vote.   Council member Allen Meredith made the motion and Council member Gary Southerland provided the second.  The discussion on the website has been a lengthy one spanning back to early 2013. The website vote was recently delayed as the council investigated the possibility of a conflict of interest as Yellowberri co-owner Josh Hampton also sits on Morgantown's Housing Authority Board.

Warren RECC's New CEO Visits Morgantown

The Morgantown office of Warren Rural Electric Cooperative Corporation hosted a reception for their new Chief Executive Officer, W. Scott Ramsey on Friday.  Several members of the community and former Warren RECC employees stopped by to meet Ramsey.

Morgantown City Police Officer Denny Deweese received the DUI Award at the 2013 Governor's Occupant Protection Enforcement Awards Ceremony held at the Marriot East in Louisville, Kentucky.

Rochester Community Christmas

Friday night December 13, Rochester had their annual Community Christmas celebration at the Rochester Community Building.  Within minutes of the 6 p.m. start time, Rochester residents began filling the building in anticipation of a great evening celebrating the Christmas season.

BCHS Arts Exhibition set for this weekend

The Butler County High School River Arts Exhibition has had one bump in the road on the way to its inaugural showing. Weather forced postponement of the event from Dec 7th and 8th, to Saturday and Sunday, December 14th and 15th.

BC Farm Bureau receives 2013 Young Farmer Gold Star Award of Excellence

Recognized for the achievements of its Young Farm Program this year, Butler County Farm Bureau received the 2013 Gold Star Award of Excellence during Kentucky Farm Bureau’s annual meeting in Louisville. The award honors a county’s Young Farmer Committee for its active participation in Farm Bureau leadership development programs, state competitions, and educational or promotional initiatives.

Test scores improving for Butler County Schools

The Butler County Board of Education discussed the school district’s successes in energy usage and student scores at its regular meeting Tuesday night at the Butler County Education Complex.

Informational Meeting Planned for Affordable Health Care Act

On January 1, 2014, the Affordable Health Care Act goes into effect and Tracy Cowles, County Extension Agent for Family & Consumer Sciences, will host an informational meeting on Saturday, December 14 beginning at 9 a.m. at the Butler County Extension Office.  Gina Tynes with Hocker Insurance Agency will explain how the law affects you or your family. NOTE:  INFORMATION WILL BE FOR PEOPLE UNDER 65 YEARS OF AGE AND NOT MEDICARE-ELIGIBLE.  This program will be for people who already have insurance and people who don’t – but want to.
