1)     Please describe the duties, as you see them, of holding the seat of which you are seeking and how you plan to fulfill those responsibilities.
A councilman’s responsibility is to pass an annual budget for operating the city government and to seek out potential commercial and industrial development for Morgantown and Butler Co. It also includes work sessions and gathering information from city residents and other county and state elected officials.  

Longtime Employee of WRECC Retires

When eighteen-year-old Sara Cannon walked through the front door of the WRECC office, the first person she met on her new job was Jewel (Mullinex) McCoy.  “You’re not here to stroke egos,” Ms. McCoy told her, ”You’re here to take care of the customer.”  Sara took that advice, along with a work ethic she began developing as an eleven-year-old, helping her mom at The Sandwich Shop, and carved out a career that spanned forty-three years.  Sara will retire this week.

Mayor Linda Keown Endorses Current City Council

Morgantown Mayor Linda Keown has officially endorsed the current City Council members in the upcoming November 6th election.  Keown released a personal letter (posted below) to the media this afternoon stating the reasons for her endorsements.

My duties to the city of Morgantown is to listen to the people who live here and to truly care about them. Also, to help the city of Morgantown grow and be a town our children and grandchildren will be proud of.

Attempted Break-In at True Value

The front door of Bill Hood’s True Value Hardware was shattered early Monday morning.  Someone attempted to break-in to the hardware a little after 2:00am.  The alarm system notified the police and Morgantown Police Officer Denny Deweese arrived at the scene. 

According to owner Craig Hankins he is unaware of anything missing. 

“I have not done an inventory but it appears the alarm may have scared them off,” said Hankins.  This is twice people have busted in my front door.”

Traffic to be Shifted to New Ramps at Exit 22 on Sunday

Scottsville Road Interchange with I-65 nearing completion
 For most of this year, the Scottsville Road/Exit 22 interchange has been under construction in an effort to improve traffic flow on and off  Interstate 65 as well as improve mobility along the busy corridor.  Motorists have watched over the last year as the interchange was transformed from a diamond interchange to a SPUI (single point urban interchange).

Fiscal Court holds special called meeting

The Butler County Fiscal Court met in special session on Monday afternoon at 5:30. Present were 1st District Magistrate Stevie Givens, 2nd District Magistrate Johnny Tuck, 3rd District Magistrate Chad Tyree, Judge Executive David Fields, County Road Supervisor Timmy West and County Attorney Dick Deye. The meeting was held in the auxiliary court chambers behind the Judge’s Office.
