BCHS Class of 2016 takes leap into future

The Butler County High School Class of 2016 bid farewell to their high school careers Friday evening at a commencement ceremony held in the BCHS Gymnasium. The gym was filled to the brim with family members and friends, some students receiving raucous cheers as they walked across the stage.

 

UK undergrad receives Alltech Young Scientist award

Alonna Wright, a junior in the University of Kentucky’s College of Agriculture, Food and Environment, recently received the Alltech Young Scientist award. The global contest focused on rewarding scientific genius and recognizes future applications in the agri-science sector.

Fiscal Court: Bailiff, Landline Fees, and Alertsense

The Butler County Fiscal Court met in regular session on Monday night.
The magistrates voted to approve a bailiff requested by the Administrative Office of the Courts. On a 4-1 vote the Court agreed to fund the bailiff at $9 per hour, and up to 99 hours per month. Fourth District Magistrate David Whittinghill moved to amend the standing motion so that it will not include an additional $1.44 per hour funding request.
The cost to the County for the first year would be $8,561 in the first year, and $3,208 yearly thereafter.

One man is safe, but another has drowned after both went over the Rochester Dam.

Update: The name of the drowning victim has been released, Ryan Chad Hardin, 42, of Rochester.  Hardin's body was located just below the falls of the Dam.  The name of the survivor has not been released at this time.

At approximately 9:45 a.m. this morning, Ohio County 911 Dispatch received a call about a boat going over the Rochester Dam.

According to officials, two men put a boat in the Green River on the Butler County side, near the Rochester Dam. After getting into the river, the men discovered the boat’s motor did not work.

Butler County Grand Jury Indictments

The Butler County Grand Jury returned indictments against 18 individuals on May 18, 2016. Charges include drug trafficking, theft, sexual assault, and manufacturing methamphetamine. All arraignments are set for June 14, 2016, at 10:00am.

KY participates in national ‘Click It or Ticket’ campaign: Motorists reminded to buckle up, enforcement heightened through Memorial Day

FRANKFORT, Ky. – The Kentucky Office of Highway Safety (KOHS) and the Kentucky State Police (KSP) are reminding motorists to buckle up as law enforcement agencies throughout the state join the nationwide Click It or Ticket seat belt enforcement mobilization May 23 through June 5.

“Every day, unbuckled motorists are losing their lives in motor vehicle crashes,” said KOHS Executive Director Bill Bell.  “As we approach Memorial Day weekend and the summer vacation season, we want those traveling our roadways to do the one thing that could save them in a crash: buckle up.”

The Kentucky Conservation Officers' Association held graduation services for the Fish & Wildlife Academy Recruit Class 19. These Officers graduated from the Fish & Wildlife Academy on May 13, 2016.

Tanner pens children's book in honor of mother

Amy Tanner’s mother always had her nose in a book growing up. Valorie Tanner was a librarian who instilled into her children the importance of imagination and the escape a book offered.

“She was always a book person,” Tanner said. “We also had books and she was always reading to us.”

Tanner’s mother’s life was taken abruptly five years ago by cancer.

“She got sick out of nowhere,”  Tanner said. “We found out she had cancer and she died two months later.”
