New county treasurer on the job; fire board set up for First District

Susan Johnson and Becky Jacobs

The Butler County Fiscal Court met in regular session on October 23rd at the Butler County Courthouse.  All magistrates were in attendance: Stevie Givens-First District,  Johnny Tuck-Second District, Chad Tyree-Third District, David Whittinghill-Fourth District, and Bobby Moore-Fifth District.
Butler County has a new treasurer, Becky Jacobs who was sworn in by Butler County Judge-Executive David Fields.  Jacobs replaces Susan Johnson, who retired.
Becky Jacobs grew up on a farm in southern Indiana and is a graduate of Indiana University from the accounting program. She has worked as a bank teller and in tax preparation in the past. Jacobs has lived in Butler County for five years, is married to her husband of 24 years, Jarrod, and has two teenaged boys, Aaron and Luke. When she is not working, she enjoys playing Bluegrass music in her band, "Becky and the Butler County Boys." She has always been a civic-minded person and looks forward to her work as Butler County treasurer.
The magistrates thanked Susan Johnson for her years of service.

Several citizens from Rochester were in attendance as their magistrate, Chad Tyree, asked that the balance of River Road in Rochester (about .7 mile) be chipped and sealed.  The request was approved. Tyree also requested gravel for the Logansport Ball Park, which was deferred until ownership of the park could be determined.
According to County Attorney Dick Deye, the First District needs to have a fire board to collect the fire dues.  First District Magistrate Stevie Givens said that a board had been formed consisting of himself, Doug Weathers, Brian Hope, and Ronald Givens.

Butler County Jailer Rocky Tyree requested that Amanda Vincent become full-time effective October 30, 2017, with the jail, due to another person quitting. The court approved his request.
