Butler County Rural Development Celebrates 60 Years
The Butler County Rural Development Clubs hosted their 60th annual meeting on Saturday night at the Eva Hawes Agricultural Expo and Community Building. Several gathered to celebrate the Rural Development Clubs. Butler County is the only county in the state of Kentucky to have Rural Development Clubs, at one time Butler County was home to 12 clubs. There are currently five Clubs in Butler County: Big Bend, Provo, Little Muddy, Reedyville, and Gilstrap. Gilstrap Rural Development was recently rejuvenated.

After a delicious dinner, provided by the Clubs, Vice-President Weymouth Martin called the meeting to order. Melvin Bowles introduced the guests, and Tracy Cowles gave the roll call numbers. The minutes from the previous meeting were approved, and Melvin Bowles gave the treasurer’s report.
Entertainment was provided by Maggie and Greg Drake

Local author Roger Givens was the keynote speaker sharing Butler County history.
The nominating committee report was given by Judy Dye with the following individuals elected to serve: Betty Farris, president, Weymouth Martin, vice-president, Jarred Evans, secretary, Melvin Bowles, treasurer and Gregory Drake II, advisor.

Door prizes were distributed, and the meeting was adjourned.
