Butler Co. Sheriff's Department: Speeding leads to drug arrest

On June 19th around 1:48 am Butler County Sheriff's Deputy Chris Reneer observed a 1996 green Grand Prix traveling westbound on KY 70 Rochester Road at a high rate of speed.  Reneer paces the vehicle at speeds of 100mph in a 55mph zone through the stretch by Cedar Ridge Raceway.

Utilities Board approves rate increase; departments report on city happenings

Morgantown City Council met in regular session on Thursday, June 14th at the Eva J. Hawes Building.  Council members Sharon Johnson and Russell Givens were not in attendance. 
The Morgantown Utilities Commission announced they had the second reading and passing of their 2018-19 budget and effective July 1, 2018, they will increase water and gas rates.  Water will increase 5 percent and natural gas will increase 4 percent. According to Jim Green, Utility board member, with the cost of day-to-day operation cost rising, this increase is necessary to help offset the expenses.

MPD: Domestic Call Results in Drug Arrest

 Morgantown Police responded to a domestic on West G.L. Smith street which led them to 404 West G.L Smith Street. During their investigation officers discovered in plain sight (Methamphetamine, Marijuana, and prescription drugs in a non approved container) 3 people were charged and lodged in the Butler County jail.

The Butler County Fiscal Court met in regular session on Monday, June 11th at the Butler CountyCourthouse.  All magistrates were in attendance Stevie Givens, Jonny Tuck, Chad Tyree, David Whittinghill, and Bobby Moore.
Christina Dawson of SOKY Jobs gave a presentation to the court. In the November 13, 2017, meeting the court accepted the SOKY Jobs proposal for $19,500.

Guthrie Opioids Bill Passes House

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. House of Representatives today passed the Comprehensive Opioid Recovery Centers Act (H.R. 5327), a bill Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02), vice chair of the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s Health Subcommittee, introduced earlier this year to combat the ongoing national opioid crisis.

Butler County ATC seeking instructor for Business and Office Technology position

Butler County ATC

A business education program will be coming to the Butler County Area Technology Center for the 2018-19 school year.  According to Principal Ray Hammer, the program will pursue a Financial Services Pathway.  Teaching certification is required the employee will be a member of the Kentucky Teachers' Retirement System.  Starting salary will be a minimum of $41,750.

This past Saturday marked the 14th season opening celebration for the Green River Museum in Woodbury, KY and according to Museum Board Chairman, Tommy Hines, the event was the largest attended opening since the board formed in 2003.

One hundred fifty students graduated from Butler County High School on Friday, June 1st, at 7:30 p.m. Superintendent Scott Howard, members of the Butler County Board of Education, and members of Butler County High School’s Site Base Decision Making Council led the processional into the high school gymnasium.
