Morgantown City Council honors outgoing members, recognizes Arts Guild, hears department reports

The Morgantown City Council met in regular session on Thursday, December 8th.  All of the current council was present as were the newly elected members, Jason Gaskey, Dustin Embry, and Sterling White. The new council will be sworn in on December 27th at 6:00 p.m. at the Eva J. Hawes Building.

WKU commencement held Saturday; over 1,370 degrees and certificates awarded

Western Kentucky University conferred degrees and certificates to more than 1,370 graduates Saturday at its 180th Commencement.

During morning and afternoon ceremonies at Diddle Arena, WKU awarded 75 associate, 925 bachelor’s, 307 master’s, 13 doctoral and three specialist degrees and 19 undergraduate certificates and 30 graduate certificates for a total of 1,372.

Heiner favors grading schools on A-F scale

The state’s education secretary wants to see Kentucky schools be given A to F grades under its rede­signed accountability system, say­ing that having the report card­style labels will be clear and easy for parents and the community to understand.

Gov. Bevin says KY Republicans won’t ‘hang ourselves’ with the rope voters provided

FRANKFORT - Gov. Matt Bevin vowed this week that he and other Republican leaders will not use the “rope” that Kentucky voters gave them on Nov. 8 to “hang ourselves.”

With Republicans in control of Kentucky’s governor’s office, Senate and House, some people “believe we’ve been given enough rope to hang ourselves,” Bevin said in an interview this week with Kentucky Today, a publication of the Kentucky Baptist Convention.

B. C. Farm Bureau receives 2016 Women’s Gold Star Award of Excellence

Louisville, KY (December 2, 2016) – Recognized for the achievements of its women’s program this year, Butler County Farm Bureau received the 2016 Gold Star Award of Excellence during Kentucky Farm Bureau’s annual meeting in Louisville. The award honors county Women’s Committees for active participation in leadership development programs, agricultural promotion, educational initiatives and numerous other aspects of support to the local Farm Bureau.

Louisville, KY (December 2, 2016) – Recognized for the achievements of its Young Farm Program this year, Butler County Farm Bureau received the 2016 Gold Star Award of Excellence during Kentucky Farm Bureau’s annual meeting in Louisville. The award honors a county’s Young Farmer Committee for its active participation in Farm Bureau leadership development programs, state competitions, and educational or promotional initiatives.

General Richard Butler, Sons of the American Revolution Chapter, participate in Festival of Trees

When visitors to the 2016 Butler County Chapter NSDAR Festival of Trees happen upon the General Richard Butler, Sons of the American Revolution chapter decorated but unlit tree, be advised it really is by design. Members at a recent meeting voted to participate in the tree festival as a way to draw attention to the newly formed chapter named for Revolutionary War officer General Richard Butler. Butler County was in turn named in his honor.

B.C. Farm Bureau recognized for outstanding membership & program achievement

Butler County Farm Bureau was recognized during the 97th Kentucky Farm Bureau (KFB) annual meeting in Louisville for its outstanding membership and program achievement in 2016. The award honors county Farm Bureau offices who meet the company’s profitability requirements and whose insurance policy growth meets or exceeds its annual growth goal.
