Two Butler double homicides may be death-penalty eligible

Four people accused in connection with the deaths of two people whose bodies were found in a burned-out car in Butler County are scheduled to appear in court for arraignment Wednesday in what has the potential to become a death penalty case.

 


Charles W. "Cotton" Lindsey, 33, of Roundhill, is charged with two counts of murder and one count each of first-degree arson and tampering with physical evidence.

Fugate Retires, Tyree Appointed

In a called meeting of the Butler County Fiscal Court on Thursday night, Butler County Jailer Terry Fugate retired after 27 years of service to the county.  Fugate served as deputy sheriff prior to being elected jailer.   The elected officials in attendance presented Fugate with a certificate of appreciation.

Deye Among Nominees for Judgeship

FRANKFORT, Ky. (12/28/16) — The Judicial Nominating Commission, led by Chief Justice of Kentucky John D. Minton Jr., announced nominees to fill a vacant District Court judgeship for Butler, Edmonson, Hancock and Ohio counties. The counties make up the 38th Judicial District and the vacancy is in the district’s 1st Division.

The three nominees for the judgeship are attorneys Tara Nicole Ward, of Hartford, Kentucky, Richard "Dick" Joseph Deye, of Morgantown, Kentucky, and Joseph Brett “J.B.” Hines, of Brownsville, Kentucky.

Fugate plans to retire as Butler Co. Jailer; Judge-Executive Fields expected to appoint Deputy Jailer Rocky Tyree as new jailer

According to a meeting agenda released yesterday afternoon by Butler County Fiscal Court, Butler County Jailer Terry Fugate plans to retire as jailer.  Fugate has approximately two years remaining on his current term of office.  Judge-Executive David Fields, through executive order, is expected to appoint Rocky Tyree as the new jailer, according to the meeting agenda.  Tyree is currently a deputy jailer.  Circuit Judge Ron Dortch is scheduled to swear in Tyree as the new jailer.   The called meeting is scheduled Thursday, December 29, at 5 p.m.

Delta Faucet completes $40,000 contribution to Leader In Me

Delta Faucet recently presented the last $5,000 payment that completed their total contribution of $40,000 to the Butler County System for the Leader In Me program.  Tom Pouge and Teresa Montogmery made the presentation.

Givens, Smith to join KPA Board in 2017

Dr. Deborah T. Givens

The KPA/KPS Board of Directors will have two more new members in 2017.

Josh Smith, editor of the Three Forks Tradition in Beattyville, which is owned by his family, will be representing District 10. He is filling an unexpired term and will serve through the January 2019 KPA Convention.

District 10 includes Breathitt, Knott, Lee, Leslie, Letcher, Owsley, Perry and Wolfe counties.

Unemployment rates down in 119 KY counties in November; Butler County's rate is 4.2 percent

FRANKFORT - Unemployment rates fell in 119 Kentucky counties between November 2015 and November 2016, and stayed the same in Carlisle County, according to the Kentucky Office of Employment and Training. In addition, for the first time since December 2007, only one county, Magoffin (12.2 percent), had a double-digit unemployment rate in November 2016.
