School District Energy Star Certified, MES and BCHS report on test scores

The Butler County Board of Education met in regular session on Tuesday, November 8, at Butler County Middle School.  Board members Ryan Daugherty, Debbie Hammers, and Delbert Johnson were in attendance. Amy Hood was absent.
District Finance Officer Eric Elms presented the financial report to the board.  The beginning balance for October was $1,188,177.92.  The end of the month balance was $1,045,706.07.

Fiscal Court hires two,approves payment to Sheriff's Department.

The Butler County Fiscal Court held a called meeting on Wednesday, November 9th at the Butler County Courthouse. 
The court approved a motion (5-0) to make payment to the Butler County Sheriff Department of $7,232.48 for payment for a  new vehicle.
Next, they approved the hiring of Chaylee Melton as a part-time Animal Shelter employee.  The rate of pay was set at $9.50 per hour not to exceed 100 hours per month.

Mudd appointed to Judicial Nominating Commission for the 38th Judicial Circuit and District

Gov. Matt Bevin appointed Mark Mudd of Morgantown, to the Judicial Nominating Commission for the 38th Judicial Circuit and District.

"I'm honored to have been appointed by Governor Bevin to the Judicial Nominating Commission for the 38th District and Circuit Courts.  Butler, Edmonson, Ohio and Hancock Counties are all served by this important court within our Judicial System.  I will work very hard to represent Butler County well in this endeavor of public service," said Mudd.

Chris brings over 20 years of experience in agricultural lending.  Chris is a native of Butler County. His parents are James and Melba Holman who still reside in the Provo community.

Man Arrested for Stealing Garbage Truck

On November 9th the Morgantown Police Department received a complaint around 5:00am regarding the theft of a Green River Waste, garbage truck located at the Jumping Jack's Shell Station on Hwy 231.  While Officer James Embry was investigating the incident, the stolen vehicle appeared back at the location and proceeded to leave the area.  Officer Embry attempted initiating a traffic stop on the vehicle, but the suspect did not stop and turned onto the William Natcher Parkway headed southbound.  He traveled three to four miles and then turned around and headed back toward Morgantown.  The sus

White, Embry, and Gaskey take spots on Morgantown City Council; Trump, Paul cruise to victory in Butler County

Morgantown City Council will feature several new faces in January as three newcomers won positions, ousting two incumbents in process.  Leading the ticket was Sterling White with 407 votes; second place was Dustin "Hog" Embry with 399 votes; third place went to Russell Givens with 392 votes; Gary Southerland took fourth place with 382 votes; Sharon Johnson finished in fifth place with 370 votes; and Jason Gaskey grabbed the sixth and final spot on the council with 338 votes.

Two Firefighters Among Those Arrested in Connection with Sunfish Mall and Other Fires

Four men have been arrested for their connections and involvement with the Sunfish Mall fire on Halloween night, and/or other recent fires, according to the Edmonson County Sheriff's Office.

Benches Added to City Landscape

McDonald's of Morgantown

The City of Morgantown have installed the new benches, and they look great. 
"I want to personally thank all of the sponsors for their help and support in our new city benches," said Mayor Billy Phelps.
Each bench was placed on a concrete pad, and a plaque was placed on the bench in recognition of the sponsor. If anyone else is interested in a bench contact City Hall. There was no cost to the City.

Butler County Chapter NSDAR Veteran Breakfast

The Butler County Chapter NSDAR held their 2016 Veterans Breakfast on Saturday, November 5th. The breakfast has become a tradition since the first one held in 1985 in the basement of the United Methodist Church with Mrs. Helen Hunt as caterer. Later the event was held at the Woodbury House Restaurant for several years, then moved to the Butler County Library where the ladies brought the food. The crowd continued to grow, so the breakfast was moved to the Butler County High School Commons area where it is currently being held.

The 2017 Calendar Girl/Centerfold Guy contest was held on Saturday night.   Taylor Burden was crowned Calendar Girl and will grace the cover of the calendar.  Connor Brown was crowned Centerfold Guy. The event is sponsored by the Butler County High School FCCLA.  This year marked the 26th Calendar Girl contest and the 14th Centerfold contest.
