Constitution & Citizenship Week Proclamation

Lynda O'Driscoll, Butler County Judge Executive Tim Flener, Linda Deweese, and Abby Evans.

Friday September 17, 2021, Judge Executive, Tim Flener, participated in the signing of the Constitution Week Proclamation.  This proclamation signing took place during citizenship week, that takes place from September 17 – 23.

The proclamation signed by Judge Executive, Tim Flener, discusses the Constitution of the United States of America is the guardian of our liberties.  It embodies the principles of limited government, a Republic dedicated to rule by law.  September 17, 2021, marked the two hundred and thirty-fourth anniversary of the framing of the Constitution of the United States.

This seems fitting that Judge Executive Flener officially recognize that the magnificent document, its anniversary, and how the patriotism celebrations will commemorate it.  Flener asks all the citizens to reaffirm the ideals the Framers of the Constitution had in 1787.  Citizens can do this through protecting the freedoms that are guaranteed to us through this guardian of our liberties, known as the Constitution.  To many individuals who wish to become U.S. Citizens, the process and documents that are in place to guarantee our freedom and liberties are of great importance.

The Butler County Kentucky Chapter NSDAR wanting to take the time during citizenship week to recognize Evelyn “Abby” Menes Evans.  Evans is the daughter in law of Chapter Registrar, Linda Deweese, and late Bobby Deweese.  Abby is from the Philippines, as she was born and grew up there.  After moving to Butler County on December 26, 2015, she applied for U.S. Citizenship as soon as she could.  Although Covid-19 delayed the process of citizenship, on March 24, 2021, Abby attended the swearing in ceremony in Louisville, Kentucky.  It was during this ceremony that she pledged her allegiance by quoting the Pledge of Allegiance.  As this process was very lengthy and important to Abby she said, “emotions were running high that day and it was a dream come true.”

Judge Executive Tim Flener states, “I encourage all the people of Butler County, especially young students, to become familiar with the three main documents of the United States.  The Declaration of Independence, Bill of Rights, and U.S. Constitution. This is what makes us the country that we are and have become in our nation.”  It is known that becoming U.S. Citizens is very important to individuals and they truly value the documents of our nation.  If these are important to those trying to gain citizenship to our country, they prove of great importance to the lives of U.S. Citizens as these documents protect our rights, freedom, and liberties.
