Cheryl Hughes: Reinvention

Occasionally, I read stories about people who reinvent themselves after retirement.  They move to new places, go back to school, take up painting or learn to play a musical instrument.  I’ve always admired those types of people, because I know how much effort it takes to learn new things as you age.

Jarrod Jacobs: Amen

Amen is a word we hear at the close of prayer. Often, when one ends his prayer with “Amen,” we hear others echo, “Amen.” We rarely use the word today except at those times or when we agree with something someone has said during a sermon. Would it surprise you to learn that the word “Amen” is found no less than 78 times in the Bible? When we add the words “verily” or “truly” to this list, since it is the same word in the original, we find the term used hundreds of times in Scripture!

Remember when you were a kid and you’d hear songs on television commercials and think “what is that song”? What year could that possibly be from?

To-do lists are a part of my daily life. They help me remember the things that need to be done. While reading last week, I came across some articles about to-don’t lists. Although I am unlikely to make such a list, they were entertaining reading.

I suppose most folks have never heard of Stan Jones. Heaven I had bet they have lied and liked his music, the likes of which: Cheyeanne, Ghost riders in the sky; Rawhide, and a string of western movie song titles.

Cheryl Hughes: Real Cowboy

Back in 2005 when Nikki was attending Texas A&M in Galveston, she bought Garey a cowboy hat for his birthday.  The hat is an authentic hand cut and shaped Western version from The Hat Store in Houston, Texas.  I will never forget the evening I met Garey at the Hobby airport in the arrivals lane and watched as he crossed the crosswalk in his cowboy hat, jeans, plaid shirt and boots to my car.  The traffic cop who was directing vehicles in and out of the parking spots turned toward Garey and said very loudly, “A real cowboy!

Jarrod Jacobs: Multi-Culturalism Run Amok!

The first few weeks of January 2021 have been historic, to put it mildly. With so much happening, some events got overshadowed. One of these had to do with the prayer offered over the 117th Congress. by the U.S. Representative from Missouri, Emmanuel Cleaver. Most of what is remembered is the infamous ending, “amen and awoman.” However, I would like to examine another part of Rep. Cleaver’s prayer. To me, this part has not gotten the attention it deserves.

Next week we will welcome February. This month makes me think about winter weather, Valentine’s Day and filing taxes. February definitely has its highs and lows!
First, I always wonder about the weather in February. According to Bing on the Internet, Morgantown’s average February temperature high is 49 °F and the average low is 29 °F with an average rainfall of 4 inches. The WeatherTAB’s February prediction for Morgantown included the following:
-Precipitation Forecast: Wetter Than Normal
-Temperature Forecast: Cooler Than Normal

Recently, I came upon two broadcasts that taught me and reminded me about the importance of doing what is right.  Right for the physical body, right for the soul, and right for those around you.  One was an interview with Dr.
