Patty Craig; A Slice Of Time

Next week we will welcome February. This month makes me think about winter weather, Valentine’s Day and filing taxes. February definitely has its highs and lows!
First, I always wonder about the weather in February. According to Bing on the Internet, Morgantown’s average February temperature high is 49 °F and the average low is 29 °F with an average rainfall of 4 inches. The WeatherTAB’s February prediction for Morgantown included the following:
-Precipitation Forecast: Wetter Than Normal
-Temperature Forecast: Cooler Than Normal
-Average High Temps: 40 to 55 °F
- Average Low Temps: 20 to 35 °F
-Rain Frequency: 4 to 6 days
Additionally, The Old Farmer’s Almanac forecast for the Ohio Valley said:
February 1-3: Snow showers, cold
February 4-15: Rainy periods, mild
February 16-24: Sunny, warm
February 25-28: Rainy, turning cold
I will enjoy seeing whether these long-range forecasts are accurate.
Second, Valentine’s Day is mid-month. It falls on Sunday this year, so we could celebrate through the weekend. Although my babies are grown and have their own grown and nearly-grown babies, I like doing something small for each of them – a reminder that they are loved. I read a statement recently that said, “The space you have occupied in my life cannot be replaced.” Family members are irreplaceable, and Valentine’s Day provides an opportunity to show our love.
Third, although April 15 is the date that an individual’s income taxes are due, I prefer to file mine in February. If I owe additional taxes to the government, this gives me time to decide how to pay the amount owed, and if I get a refund, I may as well get it sooner than later. The biggest plus for early filing is that I don’t have to think about it for the next few weeks. I have begun gathering tax-related information. As soon as I receive the necessary documents, I’ll be ready for a tax preparation appointment.
Terri Guillemets said, “February is the border between winter and spring” (https://www.quotegarden.com/february.html). Determined people can find a way to appreciate every month. Although Guillemets may be right, February reminds me of winter weather, Valentine’s Day and filing taxes.
