Don Locke; Lookin Thru Bifocals

Henry was a small, brown horse, bigger than a pony, not as large as a regular horse.

Cheryl Hughes: The Little Engine That Couldn't

My great uncle, on my father’s side, ran a meat processing plant, but also dabbled as an inventor.  He chased after the illusive perpetual motion motor off and on for years; once, almost blowing up the entire hillside where he lived, according to my dad.

Jarrod Jacobs: Love In Marriage

Something that needs to be seen is the love expressed between a man and woman in marriage. Those who are not married are one day going to be the recipients and givers of such love, and they need to look at those currently married to see what it is like to love someone and live with them for the rest of their lives.

Senator C. B. Embry Jr. Legislative Update

The Kentucky General Assembly reconvened in Frankfort this week for the second portion of the 2021 Regular Session. Legislative business at the Capitol has resumed full speed ahead, as both the House and Senate spent the week meeting in committees, voting bills out of the chamber, and overriding vetoes recently cast by the governor.

Patty Craig: A Slice of Time

A little more than a year ago at the IGA checkout, I impulsively purchased a special National Geographic publication by Jean-Pierre Isbouts entitled Women of the Bible. I have read portions of it, but not every article. The publication includes three chapters: (1) the life of a woman in Biblical times, (2) leading women in the Hebrew Bible, and (3) leading women in the New Testament. Three women in the second chapter caught my attention: Zipporah, Deborah and Esther. These women were important in biblical history.

Cheryl Hughes: Stay In Your Own Lane

One day, as I passed a car on Campbell Lane in Bowling Green, I noticed two stickers the driver had placed there.  One, attached to the bumper, read, Left Passing  Right Driving.  The second was placed on the driver’s side window, it stated in bold letters LEFT LANE IS FOR PASSING RIGHT LANE IS FOR DRIVING.  Obviously, the driver had had his fill of people blocking the passing lane.

Jarrod Jacobs: What Must I Do To Be Saved?

This question is a perennial question. Concerned people asked this several times in the book of Acts, and many ask it today. When one asks, “What must I do to be saved?” let us allow the Lord to answer the question.

To be saved, one must believe in Christ. Jesus said, “if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins” (John 8:24). This faith (trust) that Christ is God’s Son comes through hearing God’s word (Romans 10:17). Without faith, it is impossible to please God (Hebrews 11:6).

When one sport ends, another begins.  Last Sunday was the Superbowl.  Or, as it turned out, the stupor bowl (because the game was boring).  1959 was the very first Daytona 500.  Decades later and it is still going strong.  Granted, it’s going to look a bit different this year (as has everything), I have a feeling it’s going to be just as exciting.  Well, at least the last half should be.  As I write this (Tuesday), the Busch Clash is on tap tonight.  Pole qualifying will be Wednesday night.  The Daytona Duals are Thursday night.  The truck race is Friday.  The X-Finity race is Saturday and

Valentine’s Day gifts for my children and grandchildren have been on my mind. I like to surprise them, but my gifts tend to be more predictable than I like. Like many others, my imagination and my budget are limiting factors.

I read an article, “Valentine’s Day Spending Statistics, Trends, and Fun Facts (US & UK)” (https://muchneeded.com/valentines-day-statistics/), on the Much Needed website that provided the following statistics:
