Cedar Ridge Speedway

Cedar Ridge Speedway started their 2012 season on Saturday, April 28th.  Points started for all divisions. Cedar Ridge Speedway is located just 2 miles west of Morgantown, KY off the William Natcher Parkway on Hwy. 70.
2012 Weekly Race Times: Gates open at 4:00, Draw closes at 6:30, Qualifying at 6:45

Divisons include: UMP Open Wheel Modifieds, UMP Limited Mods, UMP Limited Late Models, Street/Pure Stocks, Cruisers,  UMP Mini Stocks, Bombers,and Rusty Bolts.

Snappers four-run first too much for Hot Rods

Bowling Green loses two straight for the first time since April 9-10

Beloit, WI – The Bowling Green Hot Rods (13-8) were unable to overcome a four-run first inning by the Beloit Snappers (11-10) on Thursday night at Pohlman Field, falling 8-3.  The losing effort marks the first series loss for the Hot Rods since dropping two of three in West Michigan on the season’s opening road series on April 9-11.

BASEBALL: Bears down 12th District foe Edmonson County

On Tuesday night the BCHS Bears baseball team hosted the Edmonson County Wildcats (10-11) for a district varsity/junior varsity double header.  This marked the first time the two teams have met this season, and the first home district game for the Bears this year.  BCHS was able to provide a clean sweep of the Wildcats, winning the varsity game 8-6, and the JV game 5-4 in exciting fashion.

Baseball: Bears battle Gators, Colonels, and Dragons last week

The BCHS baseball team had busy week with 3 varsity and 3 junior varsity games.  The varsity dropped a heart breaker to Greenwood on Monday night, won big 16-1 over Caverna on Tuesday night, and lost 5-1 to Warren Central on Thursday night.  The scheduled Saturday game at Logan County was canceled due to rain.

Woodcock steps down; the search begins for a new coach

After three years as the head coach of the Butler County High School boys basketball team, Greg Woodcock has announced that he will step down from coaching. During his tenure, Woodcock led the Bears to a 12th District Runner-Up and a 3rd Region tournament appearance both in the 2011-2012 season.

Blue-White Football Game

The Butler County Football Team will have its Spring Blue-White Football Game at 5:00pm May 3rd at the High School Football Field. Tickets at the gate will be $5 per person which includes the game, a hot dog and a drink. 40 players are working hard and prepping for the 2012 Football Season.

Gaskey picks up complete game victory over Campbellsville

Murray State starting pitcher CheyAnne Gaskey struck out a career-high eight batters in her first complete game as the Racers defeated Campbellsville 7-0 in non-conference action at Racer Field. Gaskey faced-off against former 3rd Region foe Martina Riney, who was on the mound for Campbellsville.

BC Tennis teams compete in OVSS Tennis Classic; Hampton places 3rd

The BCHS girls and boys tennis teams traveled to Owensboro this week for the OVSS Tennis Classic.  The OVSS is a tournament for all 3rd region teams, and serves as something of a preview of what the regional tournament might look like, in three weeks.  In addition to what the regional tournament offers, all first match losers in the OVSS enjoy the chance to advance to a backdraw, just for them, guaranteeing every participant a chance to play at least two matches.

SOFTBALL: Bears win two, lose one at Capital City

The BCHS Bears softball team claimed two wins last weekend in the Capital City Showcase Classic in Frankfort - one of the top tournaments in the state.  Butler County defeated St. Joseph's Academy (Cleveland, Ohio) 5-3 on Friday night and Louisville Eastern 4-3 in a nine-inning tiebreaker on Saturday; the Bears fell 7-0 to Anderson County earlier on Saturday.  Despite going 2-1 in pool play and finishing in a three-way tie for first, Butler County did not advance to the single elimination tournament due to a run differential rule as part of the tie-breaker process.

Wesley Gets First Turkey

Wesley Phelps killed his first turkey on opening day of the Youth Season.  The turkey weighed 19.12 lbs.,  a 10" beard, and 3/4 in. spurs. Wes went with his daddy, Tommy Phelps.
