Joe K. Morris: Armchair All Star

Another NFL season is upon us. For myself and the other hundreds of millions of fans of professional football the Thursday following Labor Day has become as big a holiday as Thanksgiving and Christmas. I actually don't start looking forward to Christmas on December 26th, but I do start counting the days to next season's kickoff on the morning after the Super Bowl.

BCHS Lady Bears Soccer Team Has A New Coach

As the 2013 girls soccer season kicks off, they will be coached by a new, but familiar face. Last year the team was coached by Shilo Ringl, but this season Patrick O’Driscoll is the head coach. With a total of 20 girls on the high school team, depth is not an issue for this coach. He has 6 seniors, 2 juniors, 4 sophomores, and 8 freshmen to make up a varsity squad.

Hidden Valley Golf Celebrates Two Hole-In-One's

Hidden Valley Golf Course celebrated two Hole-In-One's this weekend. The first one was on Saturday by Donna Talley, Hole 15, 108 yards.  Witnesses included;Frank Huff, Paul Quiggins, Bernard Logsden, Bob Talley.

The second Hole-In-One was made by  Tommy Dockery on Sunday. Again Hole 15 was the magic hole, this time a 121 yards, witnesses included Jerry Simmons, Wesley Parker, Gavin Parker.

BCHS Boys' Golf Team Pick Up Wins

On August 15th the Butler County Boys' Golf team had a home match at Hidden Valley. They hosted Apollo and Owensboro Catholic. After waiting for both teams to arrive they became anxious and eager to start. The number one and two players, Hunter Cardwell and Houston Jones played an even match both shooting a 42 and leading the Bears. Eddie Phelps and Easton Jones(8th grader) both shot 45, Remmington Harpe followed closely with a 46, Trevor Dockery(7th grader) stayed in the 40’s with a 49, Jon Zlater with a 55 and Brandon Jones with a 56.

Week 1: From the Sidelines....

The Butler County Bears came to play in week one of the 2013 season.  The Bears took care of things on the field defeating the Logan County Cougars 47-0, but there was plenty of action on the sidelines as well Each week Beech Tree News gives you a glimpse of the sidelines.... Enjoy!

PREP FOOTBALL PREVIEW: Reloaded Bears take aim at 2013 season

Although the Butler County High School football team suffered relatively small-in-number but significant losses to graduation from its 6-5  playoff campaign in 2012, the Bears have reloaded in 2013 with a strong group of returning players and three transfers.  Elijah Flener (record-setting QB), Dylan Havens (record-setting DB; collegiate track signee), Ricky Palmer (KWC signee), Kole Dean, Levi Johnson, and Jacob Richmond are among those players who graduated in 2012.

Volleyball Team Defeats Ohio Co. 2-0

The 2013 Butler County Volleyball team picked up their first varsity win on Tuesday night as they defeated the Lady Eagles of Ohio County 2-0.  The Lady Bears took the first game 29-27 and sealed the match with a 25-12 win of the second game.

Congratulations to the Lady Bears, Coach Jimmy Arnold, and Coach Angie Arnold.

Butler County will be back in action on Thursday night as they travel to Grayson County.

BCHS Boys' Golf Team In Action

With another school year starting, the Butler County High School Boys Golf team is in full swing! Greg Moore is the new coach and has plans to expand the program and to participate in more tournaments. The boys began practicing in July to prepare for the fast approaching 2013-2014 golf season. The team has 22 events scheduled, including two 18 hole tournaments and the final event being the regional tournament on September 30.  The team has already participated in the Class A state qualifier as their first event of the season.

BC Rescue Squad Hosting Fishing Tournament @ Twin Lakes

 

The Butler County Rescue Squad will be hosting a Fishing Tournament on August 31, 2013 at Twin Lakes Pay Lake in Gilstrap, from 11am to 3pm.  Adults’ cost is $30 with no limit on fish.  The biggest fish is worth $50, the smallest fish wins a fishing pole.

Kids 14 and under cost is $10 with an 8 fish limit.  Biggest fish wins a fishing pole, kids 14 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Bears Have Depth and Experience in 2013; Looking For Successful Season

Heavy rains could not stop the "Meet & Greet" for the Butler County High School Football team.  The Blue/White scrimmage was canceled but fans packed the fieldhouse to get a glimpse of the 2013 Bears.
