Butler County's Special Taxing Districts

State Auditor Adam Edelen

Kentucky State Auditor Adam Edelen released information yesterday about the special taxing districts across the Commonwealth.    There are 1,268 special taxing districts in Kentucky and at least one in every county.  Totally the districts have revenues and spend $2.7 billion; that exceeds the amount the state spends each year to educate school children and spends on highways.

The Butler County Fiscal Court had its monthly meeting for November on Tuesday night. The meeting was rescheduled from Monday, November 12th because of the Veteran’s Day observance. All members were present along with several visitors. Because the meeting wasn’t regularly scheduled, the agenda was not open for additions, but visitor comments and questions were welcomed.

Andrea's Mission 4th Annual Graduation Ceremony

The Andrea's Mission, a bible-centered recovery program,  held its 4th annual graduation ceremony on Sunday, November 11th at Cool Springs Baptist Church. The four graduates included: Amanda Havens, Savannah Lindsey, Emily Ball, and Connie Hunt.

Veterans Parade

The Ladies Auxiliary to the VFW Post 5837 hosted the annual Veterans' Parade on Saturday afternoon.  It was a beautiful afternoon to say thank you to our veterans.  In case you missed the parade check out Beech Tree News' video by Jeremy Hack.

VFW Ladies Auxiliary Veteran of the Year: Geoffrey Henderson

The Ladies Axuiliary to the VFW Post named Geoffrey Henderson Veteran of the Year on Friday night at the Post. Geoffrey Henderson was born the second son of George and Anna Henderson in Welland, Ontario, Canada near the Erie Canal. The Henderson family immigrated to the United States in 1962 and Geoffrey completed high school in Park Forest, Illinois. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corp in 1962 just prior to graduating and left for boot camp in San Diego, California a month later.

Butler County Chapter DAR Veteran of the Year, Bubby Porter

The Butler County Chapter National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution held their Annual Veterans Breakfast on Saturday morning at the Butler County High School Commons Area. Regent Lynda Knight welcomed the crowd and 25 veterans in attendance.  Lois Russ , registrar, led the pledge followed by the invocation by Chaplain Linda Wood.  After a complete breakfast served by the DAR ladies, the Veteran of the Year was announced.

WKU honors students from Butler, other area counties

WKU honored 29 students from six south central Kentucky high schools for their academic achievements.  This year’s group has an average ACT composite score of 28.89 and grade-point average of 3.95 and included 20 Kentucky Governor’s Scholars.
 
The following students were honored at a luncheon Nov. 9 at the WKU’s Kentucky Building:
 
Butler County High School: Kaley Burden, Mahkala Burden, Sierra Fields, Alex Hall, Laura Hunt, Austin Vonaxelson.

Make A Difference

In an effort to help raise money and food for the local food pantry, Beechtree News & WLBQ 1570 will host a live radio remote this Friday morning from the Morgantown Mission (8AM-12PM)!
