Butler County's Special Taxing Districts

State Auditor Adam Edelen

Kentucky State Auditor Adam Edelen released information yesterday about the special taxing districts across the Commonwealth.    There are 1,268 special taxing districts in Kentucky and at least one in every county.  Totally the districts have revenues and spend $2.7 billion; that exceeds the amount the state spends each year to educate school children and spends on highways.

Butler County is one of the 117 of 120 counties where residents pay more to special districts than they do to the county government.  The only county where that does not happen is Pike, Daviess, and McLean.

Butler County has seven special taxing districts: Big Muddy Creek Watershed Conservancy District, Butler County Ambulance Service, Butler County Extension Taxing District, Butler County Health Taxing District, Butler County Library Taxing District, Butler County Soil & Water Conservation District, and the Butler County Water District.
