Board of Education: "Clean audit," bonds, student recognition among topics

The Butler County Board of Education met in regular session on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at the Butler County Middle School. 

Prior to the board meeting the Butler County School District Finance Corporation met.  The corporation considered a bond resolution to authorize the advertisement of and the sale of bonds on December 5, 2012, and all other documents in association with the proposed Butler County District Finance Corporation 2012 Energy Conservation Measure (ECM) bonds.  The proceeds of this sale will be used to refund the Corporation’s 2003 ECM bond issue. According to Superintendent Scott Howard, the bond resolution will be a savings of $14,000 for the board.

After taking care or routine items - approving the agenda and minutes from the October 16th meeting -  the board heard from treasurer Eric Elms. 

Beginning Balance:  $407,107.25

Receipts: $1,534,693.23

Expenditures:  $1,392,609.29

Ending Balance:  $549,191.19

The board approved the report and payment of monthly bills.

The board recognized two teams for their outstanding performances:

Butler County High School Cross Country Team-Qualified for State Competition and finished 19th out of 25 teams.

Ethan Jenkins was a Cross Country state qualifier for the third year in a row. Jenkins finished 30th out of 240 runners.

Butler County Middle School 8th Grade Football Team-Division 3 State Champions

Superintendent Scott Howard reported to the board about several meetings and events he had attended representing the district.

Shannon West of Carr, Riggs and Ingram CPAs presented the FY12 Butler County School Audit Report.

According to West, there was an $18,000 loss in food service and the district overspent $457,000 in the general fund, reflecting a $380,000 midyear loss in SEEK funds. She also stated, “it was a clean audit.”

The board approved the report.

Butler County High School Principal Patrick O’Driscoll and Principal Jeff Jennings of North Butler Elementary shared information on the recently released test scores, their plans for improvement, and GAP reports.

The board approved the District Wide Student Support Team Response Manual presented by Mrs. Linda Tyree. 

The board approved the following:

 - BCMS Honors Band Trip to Murray State University November 18-19th  (four students)

 - A resolution for a contract lease and option with the Butler County School District Finance Corporation approving all documents in association with the sale of refunding bonds to refund the  Corporation’s 2003 Energy Conservation Measure ( ECM) bond issue.
