A single-car accident this afternoon at shortly after 3 p.m. on the Natcher Parkway has resulted in a Richmond, Kentucky woman, Elizabeth Smith, being transported by air to the Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville.  The wreck took place between the 30 and 32 mile marker on Natcher Parkway between Morgantown and Owensboro.  

John W. Brown has been looking for a good excuse to get some new dress clothes for special functions and Beech Tree Media was able to supply him with that good excuse. Brown received the Beech Tree News Fan of the Month honors for the month of December and he elected to spend his $50 at Garrison's.

On Friday, January 13 Butler County Judge-Executive David Fields, along with Sr. Health Environmentalist Adam Massey of the Barren River District Health Department, proclaimed January as Radon Action Month in Butler County. Massey said, "This proclamation came in conjunction with other cities and states around the country who, in partnership with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, are taking the lead in observing National Radon Action Month."

A driver apparently blacked out and lost control of his car Sunday afternoon, causing an accident at the end of Dunbar-Leetown Road.

According to Justin Deweese of the Butler County Sheriff’s Department, Mr. Elze Hoop, 83, of Dunbar Coal Road, was traveling toward Morgantown on KY 70/Rochester Road when he attempted to turn right onto Dunbar-Leetown Road. Hoop told Deputy Deweese that he remembers turning, then didn’t have any recollection of events until he came to after hitting a tree off the side of Dunbar-Leetown Road.

Charles T. “Charlie” Black, 81 of Morgantown, Ky. passed away Saturday,January 14, 2012 at the Greenview Regional Hospital in Bowling Green, Ky. He was a Cherryville, North Carolina native and son of the late Clarence David and Dorothy Faye Grigg Black. Mr. Black was a retired Butler County High School Band Director and Mayor of Morgantown, Ky. for 34 years. He was a member of Cassia Masonic Lodge #272 F&AM, Chairman of the Board at Kentuckiana Children’s Center, one of the founders of The Green River Catfish Festival, helped develop Morgantown City Park which later became Charles T.

The Kentucky House passed the redistricting plan Tuesday and refused to make any changes proposed by the Republicans on Thursday. 

As reported by the Associated Press, the House voted 63-34 to approve the divisive proposal after rejecting a Republican generated alternative that would have eliminated some of the oddly shaped districts in which Republicans would be pitted against each other in this year’s legislative elections.   

Congressional redistricting occurs every 10 years to account for population changes.

The Butler County Board of Education held its monthly meeting Tuesday, January 10 at the Butler County Education Complex.  Superintendent Scott Howard recognized several students for their accomplishments.  Butler County High School Student, Ethan Jenkins, and Butler County Middle School student, Olivia Neighbors, were recognized for participating in the regional and state cross country meets.  Mr.

A pair of crashes closed a two separate highways in Butler County on Wednesday evening.

Darrell Deweese spent 13 years managing the local Houchens - a job where he carried out a  few bags of groceries over the years.  Now, several years later, Deweese has plans to cook some of those groceries and carry them out on plates at the Farm Boy Restaurant in Morgantown.

The Butler County Ambulance Service had its busiest year ever in 2011 making 2,228 calls from January 1 to December 31, 2011. A call, or run, is defined as members of Butler County Emergency Medical Services, or BCEMS, making contact with a patient. Over 1,600 of these calls resulted in a patient being transported and over 600 calls required no transport.
