March is National Eye Donor Month, a special time to honor those who donate their corneas after death to give others sight.  More than 48,000 Americans have their sight restored each year as a result of corneal transplants and can once again see loved ones and the colors of the world.

Traffic Stop Leads to Felony Arrest

Morgantown, KY (March 10, 2017)-  Trooper Keith Lowe conducted a traffic stop on a 2002 GMC Yukon for speeding on the William Natcher Parkway in Butler County yesterday at approx. 12:22 pm.  During the stop contact was made with a passenger in the vehicle, 24-year-old Orlando Robinson Jr. of Owensboro.  Through investigation, it was discovered that Robinson was in possession of a clear bag that contained a white powder substance that is believed to be cocaine.

WKU Bridge Building Competition A Success for BCMS Students

On Saturday, March 4, the 22nd annual Regional Bridge Building Competition was held at the WKU Center for Research and Development in Bowling Green.  This competition was open to all area schools.  There were six qualifying contestants from Butler County Middle School who entered bridges in the middle school division.

House Passes ‘Tim Tebow’ Bill; Paves Way for Home Schoolers to Participate in Public School Extracurricular Activities

FRANKFORT, Ky. (March 7, 2017) – Today, The Kentucky House of Representatives passed House Bill 58, informally dubbed the ‘Tim Tebow’ bill. If signed into law, House Bill 58 would allow homeschool students to participate in public school extracurricular activities for the school in their respective district.

Planning underway for Playschool 2017

The Butler County Child Development classes will conduct a Playschool for preschool children.  The days will be Tuesdays for 2 ½ and 3 year-olds, Wednesdays for 4 year-olds and Fridays for 5 year-olds; however, we are willing to work with parents on scheduling.  Children who are presently enrolled in kindergarten are not eligible to attend.  All children must be potty-trained.

A total of 18 students from the Butler County Area Technology Center recently competed in the 2017 SKILLS USA Competiton.  They were Easton Jones, Seth Gaskey, Justin Elms, Dillon Brosnan, Will Blanford, Isaac Flener, Triston Phelps, Dakota McKinney, Chris Pierson, Brandon Grubbs, Zack Smith, Noah Coots, Skyler Dockery, Calesta Childress, Trenton Dorris, Briar Gates, Trevor Henderson, and William Kelley.

Groundbreaking set for Bill Monroe museum

The long anticipated Bill Monroe Museum in Rosine is closer than ever to becoming reality.

A groundbreaking for the project has been set for 10 a.m. May 22 at Everett Park in Rosine.

The project has "been a long time coming and I'm really proud we're going to eventually get started," Ohio County Judge-Executive David Johnston said.
