Morgantown-Butler County Tourism Commission helps with local attractions.

The Morgantown- Butler County Tourism Commission recently held their meeting at the Morgantown City Hall.  They heard requests for funding from three different groups including the Green River Museum, Rochester Ladies Auxillary, and the Butler County Tractor and Small Engine Club.
The Commission has approved funding for Butler County Arts Guild, Butler County Genealogy, Trail Town, Rochester Ladies Auxillary, Butler County Tractor and Small Engine Club, 1st Annual Johnny Rose Bluegrass Festival (August 19th), and the Green River Museum.

Warren RECC Receives TVA EnergyRight® Solutions Award

Warren RECC received special recognition from the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) for helping the agency exceed energy efficiency and demand response goals for the ninth straight year through the EnergyRight® Solutions program. Warren RECC was a Top Performer in Total Program Savings and EnergyRight Solutions for Industry. 

“Warren RECC provides the staffing, promotion, and resources to ensure that customers are aware of and can participate in energy efficiency measures to save on electric bills,” said Cindy Herron, vice president of EnergyRight Solutions for TVA.

'Carry the Fallen' travels through Butler County

Soldiers participating in an annual National event called ‘Carry the Fallen,' took a short break at Jim's New Life Taxidermy shop on Sandy Creek Road this evening. This walk for these Active Heroes started at Oak Grove War Memorial, just outside of Ft. Campbell on Thursday, March 30, 2017, at 7:00.  Some 140 miles of non-stop walking day and night, except breaks to eat, will end at Ft. Knox on Sunday evening around 3:00 p.m.  Vietnam War Veteran, Stasi Drakopulos, lead the team.

MISSING: Broadway the Clown...have you seen him?

Thirty-one years ago this month, we sustained a loss that remains painful to recollect. We were robbed. Cleaned out actually, and one loss was this painting.  What we pieced together makes for an interesting story, and now days, still dealing with sentimental questions about its fate, knowing the chances of ever knowing are slim, I thought I’d post this.

The Butler County Fiscal Court met in regular session on Monday night at the courthouse.  With all magistrates present, the court quickly moved through the agenda.

Attempt to serve warrant leads to high-speed chase in Princeton, ILL.

PRINCETON — Bureau County Deputies attempting to serve an out-of-state warrant at a Tiskilwa residence wound up in a high-speed pursuit when the subject fled the scene.

The man, whose name had not been released Tuesday but was identified as being from Kentucky, fled from a home in a white 4-door sedan with Kentucky plates and headed toward Princeton at approximately 4:30 Tuesday afternoon.

Code Enforcement Board Established

The Code Enforcement Board held a special called meeting on March 23, 2017, at 5:30 pm at the Eva J. Hawes Community Center. In attendance were Mayor Billy Phelps, City Administrator Jerrod Barks, and board members Kenny Cox, Rich Ellis, Adam Williams, Jamie Chaney, and Mike Ansberry. This was the first meeting of the board.  Board members were sworn in, and Mike Ansberry was elected chairperson.   The meetings will be held quarterly at 6 pm at the Eva J. Hawes Community Center. Next meeting will be April 6th.  The board drew for alternating terms:

March Gladness nets over $10K for Boys and Girls Club

It was a busy day at Cool Springs General Baptist Church on Saturday, March 25, as many in the community took part in various events designed to raise money for the Boys and Girls Club of Butler County.  Most activities kicked off at 8 a.m.

Food was a theme throughout the day as event began with a pancake breakfast and concluded a spaghetti dinner later in the afternoon.  A silent auction was also conducted throughout the day.

A large crowd gather Saturday night, March 25, at the Butler County High School gym to enjoy a line-up of some of the best vocalists/musicians in the community.  Dubbed the "Butler County Opry," the event was headlined by Shera Lindsey, Kyle Whitaker, John King and the quartet of Mark Mudd, Scott Flener, Jacob Mudd, and Darren Lawrence with a tribute to the Oak Ridge Boys.  Greg Drake emceed the event.
