Bevin tells feds kynect dismantling is in works

FRANKFORT - Following through on a campaign pledge, Gov. Matt Bev­in has notified federal authorities he plans to dismantle kynect, Kentuck­y’s health insurance exchange creat­ed under the Affordable Care Act.

The decision drew immediate fire from health care advocates, includ­ing Bill Wagner, executive director of the Family Health Centers, a network of public health clinics in Louisville.

“It’s a great disappointment,” Wagner said. “It’s an unwelcome set­back in our efforts to reach the num­ber of uninsured people and improve access to health care in Kentucky.”

Butler County Republican Presidential Caucus set for March 5

Kentucky will be having a caucus instead of a typical primary this presidential election cycle and a few things will be different. People registered Democrat will not be affected by this caucus.  There will be a regular election in May for the Democratic presidential primary.

The caucus will be held on Saturday, March 5th, at the Morgantown Elementary School cafeteria from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This will be the only location to vote in Butler County. This caucus is only for registered Republicans in the county.  The registration deadline was December 31, 2015.

Execution of Search Warrants Results in Recovery of Stolen Property and Arrest

On Tuesday, January 5, 2016, Officer James Embry, Sgt. Denny Deweese and Chief Charles Swiney of the Morgantown Police Department executed search warrants at two different locations in Butler County.  The search warrants were obtained as a result of evidence discovered during the investigation of the numerous thefts from vehicles and burglaries that have occurred over the past month.  One search warrant was executed in Butler County and the other was executed within the city limits of Morgantown.

Recovery of Stolen Property

An investigation by Officer Brian Ward and Captain Paul Burden of the Morgantown Police Department led to the recovery of numerous items that were stolen by residents of Morgantown.  The value of the recovered property is approximately $4,000.  The property located had been stolen from cars, homes and a business in Morgantown.  Charges are pending against four (4) juveniles.
Remember to lock all doors to your residences and cars and report all suspicious activity to the Morgantown Police Department at 270 526-3662.

Housing Authority Board meet; updates planned for 2016

The Housing Authority of Morgantown held its monthly meeting in December at the Kent Manor Community Room.  The meeting was called to order by Chairman James Dossey.  Members in attendance included Dossey, Iris Moore, and Pam Staples.  The minutes were approved from the November meeting.  Housing Director Anita Jenkins reported they (the Housing Authority) had a clean audit with no findings.  She also reported that the Housing Authority’s attorney continues to respond to litigation with TLC over disputed property lines.
