Judge sets January 26 for "wet-dry" vote; Sheriff presents 2016 budget

Butler County Fiscal Court met in its second regular session for November on Monday night, November 23rd. All members were in attendance.
Butler County Judge-Executive David Fields opened the meeting with an announcement about the status of the Leonard Oak boat ramps. Fields told the Court that the final agreement with other governmental agencies concerning the ramp had been received. According to the Judge, the way is now clear to finish construction on the ramps.

Vehicle Overturned Resulting in Child Being Flown Out

**UPDATE**  Twenty three month old Elijah Smith succumbed to his injuries today and was pronounced dead at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center at approx. 11:41 am.

The investigation is still ongoing and no other details are available for release at this time.

Local Driver Nominated For National Award

The National Association of Small Trucking Companies (NASTC) represents over 6,000 trucking companies in the U.S. and Canada that employ over 75,000 drivers collectively.  Each year the association sponsors a driver of the year program to recognize the very best drivers within their group.  Among the drivers nominated for this prestigious honor is Walton Neighbors who drives for Morgantown Freight of Morgantown, KY.

Career Day at B.C.M.S.

Butler County Middle School held its annual Career Day on Thursday, November 19, for 6th and 8th grades.  The event is sponsored by the Butler County Youth Services Center.  Melissa Glass was the primary coordinator of Career Day.
Several business leaders from the community took time out of their day to come to the school and discuss possible career options with students.

Theft and Recovery of City of Morgantown Vehicle

While City of Morgantown maintenance employees were working at a pavilion at Charles Black Park on Monday, November 23, 2015, Brian Jones walked up to where a City pickup truck was parked, got in it and drove off.  They keys were left in the vehicle since it was parked in close proximity to where the employees were working.  According to Brad Johnson, Maintenance Supervisor, Jones drove through the walking track towards Helm Lane so he could exit the park, in an attempt to stop Jones, Harold Deweese, City of Morgantown Maintenance employee, drove to Helm Lane to block Jones’ route.

KSP ‘Cram the Cruiser’ Food Drive Begins Nov. 23

(Bowling Green) – Kentucky State Troopers and Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officers will help brighten the holiday season for families in need this year through the sixth annual Cram The Cruiser food drive, which begins Nov. 23 and continues through Dec. 11.
“Service to those in need goes hand-in-hand with our law enforcement mission,” says KSP Commissioner Rodney Brewer. “It’s a way to repay the local communities that support us throughout the year.”

Radio Auction Raises $12,758 for Boys & Girls Club

The Annual Boys & Girls Club’s Radio Auction was held on Saturday in the lobby of Morgantown Bank & Trust.  Tim Coleman and Tom Jones hit the air waves on WLBQ 101.5FM at 8:00am and the phones started ringing.  By the end of the auction the grand total raised was $12,758.  The auction raised $11,008 and $1,750 from Modern Woodmen.
“We want to say thank you to everyone that donated items, worked the auction, and called in bids.  The community response has been overwhelming,” said Bruce White, Boys & Girls Club Director.

Ground Breaking for Senior Citizens' Center

A small but dedicated group of local officials, citizens and community supporters braved the rain earlier today - Saturday, November 21 - to take part in the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Butler County Senior Center.

Local student selected for 2016 Who's Who

Butler County Grand Jury Indicts 37 Individuals

The Butler County Grand Jury returned indictments against 37 individuals on November 10, 2015.  Arraignment date for all the individuals is January 12, 2016 at the Butler County Courthouse.  Charges include attempted murder, rape, sodomy, burglary, assault, drugs, and unlawful transaction with a minor.
