On Saturday, March 4, the 22nd annual Regional Bridge Building Competition was held at the WKU Center for Research and Development in Bowling Green.  This competition was open to all area schools.  There were six qualifying contestants from Butler County Middle School who entered bridges in the middle school division.

Butler County Middle School students placing in the top three and receiving plaques were Kobe Annis (1st place with an efficiency of 1858.49); Tommy Hunt (2nd place with an efficiency of 830.04);  and Lita Litten (3rd place with an efficiency of 701).   Other students competing for B.C.M.S.  were James Johnson (4th place with an efficiency of 649.35); Caleb York (5th place with an efficiency of 305.17); and Hailey Pierson-Hoffman (6th place with an efficiency of 159.4).   Efficiency is determined by dividing the load the bridge will hold by the weight of the bridge.

For the elegance and creative design of a bridge, Lita Litten and Caleb York received Aesthetic Design plaques.  Lita placed first and Caleb placed second in this category.

“These bridge building students spend numerous hours designing and building their bridges to meet qualifying standards, and each student hopes his/her bridge will prove stronger than all rival entries,” said Dennis McCrocklin, coach of the B.C.M.S. bridge building team.  “Congratulations to all students who entered a bridge in the year’s competition,” added McCrocklin.
