First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall Dedication

Sunday, October 18 yielded a special day for First Baptist Church in Morgantown. Following regular service, a special dedication message was given to the congregation celebrating the completion of the new fellowship hall.

"We are doing God's work. [Our church has] been blessed beyond any means," said Greg Wallace, Pastor. A message was then given about Paul, and when he was beaten but refused to stop spreading the word.

Green River Museum Reception honors Victor Lytle

A reception was held Saturday at the Green River Museum in Woodbury to posthumously honor Victor Hugo Lytle. Lytle served as Lockmaster for Lock No. 4 in Woodbury from 1952-1959, staying in the Superintendent’s House which is now part of the museum’s grounds.

Ribbon Cutting @ North Butler Elementary for Boys & Girls Club

The Butler County Boys & Girls Club continues to grow in Butler County.  A ribbon cutting was held on Thursday, October 15th at North Butler Elementary as the club expanded to the north side of Green River.

MCRC Hall of Fame Class of 2015

Morgantown Care and Rehabilitation Center inducted seven recipients into its Hall of Fame Café on Thursday night, October 15, at the new fellowship hall of First Baptist Church in Morgantown. Inductees included residents Ernest Board (In Memoriam), James Hunter, and Joyce Annis (former resident), stakeholders Ina Johnson, Helen Phelps, and Carol Johnson, and community volunteer Garry McKinney.

Morgantown Mission Celebrates 25 Years of Service

The Morgantown Mission celebrated 25 years of service with a reception on Sunday, October 11, at the Mission Ministry Building on Main Street.  Fred Tate, chairperson for the Mission Board, welcomed everyone and former Mission Director; Bro. Gene Vaughn gave the invocation.

Fiscal Court: Boat Ramps, Landfill, and Senior Citizens Center

The magistrates of the Butler County Fiscal Court met on Monday night for their first regular meeting in October. All members were present, along with a handful of visitors. A short agenda awaited the Court.

Judge rules in favor of Morgantown and Butler County in landfill dispute

Judge Ronnie C. Dortch has ruled in favor of Butler County and the City of Morgantown concerning the Butler County Landfill.  Judge Dortch ruled that the City of Bowling Green could not terminate the contract, that any notice by the City of Bowling Green to Butler County or the City of Morgantown to exercise the option to purchase was null and void, and that the City of Bowling Green had no right to subdivide the property.

Butler Co. Middle School Receives the 2015 National Healthy Schools Bronze Award

Congratulations to 12 Kentucky schools that are receiving the 2015 National Healthy Schools Bronze Award for leading comprehensive health, physical activity, and wellness efforts during the 2014-15 school year. The Alliance for a Healthier Generation will recognize each school at the National Healthy Schools Award for transforming their environment into a healthier place at the Leaders’ Summit October 3rd.

Superheroes Needed To Save Lives, Costume Not Necessary

As Halloween approaches, people think of scary things like witches, spiders, and haunted houses, but what is actually scary is the fact that each day 22 children, men & women in America die needlessly.  As superhero capes are fitted, what Kentuckians don’t realize that everyone can be a superhero all year long, costume not necessary.  Simply by saying “yes” at your Circuit Clerk’s office and becoming a registered organ donor.

City Council: Roadblocks, Golf Carts, Charitable Donations, and Restaurant Tax

The Morgantown City Council acted to change how they gave funding to local organizations and to stop allowing road blocks to raise money at Thursday night’s monthly meeting.  A restaurant tax proposal was also discussed.
