Butler County Among "Gold" Counties in Statewide Campaign for Organ Donation

Butler County Circuit Court Clerk's office earned Gold status in the 2016 Legends Campaign by going the extra mile to support the lifesaving mission of organ donation.
The Trust For Life's Legends Campaign kicked off on January 1, 2016 as an effort to educate all Kentuckians about the mission of donation. Circuit Clerks offices were empowered to create community projects, school outreach, civic club involvement, and other promotions to help educate thousands. The Legends Campaign, a yearlong effort by offices all over Kentucky, had a major impact on increasing the number of people who joined the Kentucky Organ Donor Registry.
The offices, including Butler County, who earned hundreds of points to reach Gold Status will receive a special award from the Trust For Life.
"The Kentucky Circuit Court Clerks have supported this mission since 1992. With more than 1,000 Kentuckians waiting for a lifesaving transplant, we know this education is needed more than ever," explained Butler Circuit Court Clerk Melissa Cardwell.
"Butler County is commended for going above and beyond to help residents understand that everyone can Be a Legend by registering as a donor. There are no limitations. Everyone is welcome to join the Registry," said Shelley Snyder, Executive Director of the Trust For Life. "The amazing work of these offices will result in more patients being saved through transplantation."
"Each day in America, 22 people lose their life because an organ did not come in time. If someone I loved needed a transplant, I'd certainly want them to receive it. We are honored to educate our comm unity that everyone is welcome to join the Registry. Every 'yes' is a symbol of hope to families in need," says Cardwell.
The success of the Circuit Clerks in the first annual Legends Campaign was recognized during a presentation in Las Vegas for a conference of Donate Life advocates from around the nation. All citizens are invited to help their Circuit Clerk & Staff in the 2017 Legends Campaign by getting involved and registering as a donor at www.donatelifeky.org.
"I am so proud of my staff for reaching Gold status, but we work so hard because we want to help families. We want to save lives," says Cardwell.
