Judge dismisses Johnson lawsuit against Butler County Jail

The lawsuit filed by the widow of a man who died while in the Butler County Jail has been dismissed. Named in the suit were Butler County Jailer Terry Fugate, his chief deputy jailer, and two other people regarding the 2012 death of Clifford Dewayne Johnson.

Denise Johnson, the widow of Dewayne Johnson, sued Fugate, Chief Deputy Jailer Rocky Tyree, jail administrator Kelli Fugate, nurse Tessa Fugate and Butler County in U.S. District Court. The suit accused the defendants of being liable for Dewayne Johnson’s death because of deliberate indifference and negligence.

Butler County Fiscal Court met in regular session on Monday, January 25, with all magistrates present:  Stevie Givens (1st), Johnny Tuck (2nd), Chad Tyree (3rd), David Whittinghill (4th), and Bobby Moore (5th).

A light agenda was on tap and magistrates moved through the various items with relative ease and efficiency.

District 3 Road Conditions - Sunday

 Bowling Green, Ky. (January 24, 2016)--  Kentucky Transportation District 3 crews continue their efforts in clearing roadways across the district. The warmer weather and sunshine have been a tremendous help in greatly improving road conditions. Crews plowed overnight and resumed salting operations this morning.

Complaint prompts ouster of election officer for upcoming wet-dry vote

Following a complaint filed with the Butler County Clerk on January 12, a precinct worker has been removed from working the polls in the North Second precinct.  The Butler County Board of Elections voted to replace Roger Givens as a precinct worker after Citizens For An Alcohol Free Butler County filed a complaint with the Butler County Clerk's office.  The complaint was signed by Bruce Jennings, chairperson of the committee.

U.S. Postal Service asks customers to clear walkways and areas around mailboxes of snow and ice

In advance of a potentially large snowfall expected this weekend, Postal officials are asking for the public’s cooperation in keeping mailboxes, steps, and sidewalks clear of snow and ice so letter carriers are able to provide the safest, most efficient delivery service possible.

B.C. Sheriff's Department investigating several burglaries

The Butler County Sheriff’s Department is investigating several burglaries that occurred on Sunday night, January 17, between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 3:00 a.m. Monday morning.  Several vehicles were broken into on Sha-Ro-Ley, Cedar Ridge, and Hillview Lane.
According to Butler County Sheriff's Deputy Trey Flener, the following items were taken from the following individuals:
Tim Blanton- Cobra 380 pistol
Dale Willis- Smith & Wesson pistol
Alvin Smith- two laptops
Roger Gossett- Benelli shotgun, left-handed
Jay Clark- $30 plus dollars in cash

Jeremey Overton, 38 of Beaver Dam was traveling home from work at TVA at approximately 6:30pm last night went he lost control of his vehicle, due to a deer, and went off the cut thru road between Paradise and Rockport.

City Council: State of City, Morgantown Renaissance Plan, and MPD Honored

Morgantown Police Department officers were recognized during the meeting by Chief Charles Swiney and Mayor Phelps for their efforts in the recent rash of burglaries and car break-ins.

The Morgantown City Council unveiled their Morgantown Renaissance plan, and the Mayor gave his State of the City address at Thursday’s monthly meeting.  MPD officers were also recognized for their efforts to combat a recent crime spree.

BOARD OF EDUCATION: School calendar, make-up day, superintendent's contract approved

The Butler County Board of Education met in regular session on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. at the Butler County Education Complex.  With all members present the board quickly got down to business. Chairperson Dr. Amy Hood called the meeting to order, followed by approval of the agenda and the December minutes.
