Kentucky schools facing several new laws this year. Here’s a list

Kentucky public school students, teachers and officials will by this fall have to adjust to several new laws passed in the 2017 General Assembly.

“The new Republican majority in the General Assembly led to swift consensus on a number of education-related bills in a short session. The changes will be a lot for school districts to manage, especially with the two more reform-minded bills in the mix — House Bill 520 and Senate Bill 1,” said Brigitte Blom Ramsey, executive director of the Prichard Committee for Academic Excellence.

GRAND OPENING: U Think It We Make It

 U Think It We Can Make It held its grand opening on Saturday morning, April 8.  Surrounded by friends and family, owners Samantha Meredith and Trina Bates cut the ribbon with officials from the Morgantown-Butler County Chamber of Commerce commemorating their new store.  The atmosphere was festive with balloons and raffles for various items created by the store.

GRAND OPENING: Jenn's Quality Grooming

 Fur babies of Morgantown will now have a new place to be pampered.  Saturday morning, April 8, marked the grand opening of Jenn’s Quality Grooming.  The grooming salon is located on Veterans Way next to "U Think It We Can Make It."  The grand opening was a family affair as Jennifer’s daughters cut the ribbon in front of the crowd for the celebration.

Quilt of Valor Presented to Larry Ray Jones

 Saturday, April 8, marked the beginning of a very special award ceremony in our area.  A local quilting group, The Butler County Piece Makers, presented Larry R. Jones, a U.S. army veteran, with his very own Quilt of Valor.  The Piece Makers, Darlene Scott, Jennifer Odle, Ruth Ann Hunt and Kay Hampton, came together for this very reason, to honor veterans and service members.

Kentucky Mom Celebrates 30 years of life thanks to Organ Donation

Kathy Anderson’s heart was severely damaged by medicine she was prescribed while pregnant with twin girls. The damage wasn’t evident until after her daughters were born. Within a couple weeks, she was given only a slim chance of survival.  Her doctors knew her only option was a heart transplant.  This was in March of 1987.

Gov. Bevin Appoints Tim Coleman as Circuit Judge for the 38th Judicial Circuit, Division 1

FRANKFORT, Ky. (April 7, 2017) – Gov. Matt Bevin today appointed Timothy Ray “Tim” Coleman, of Morgantown, as Circuit Judge for the 38th Judicial Circuit, Division 1 of Kentucky—representing Butler, Edmonson, Hancock and Ohio counties.

County Health Rankings show troubling trend of more premature deaths, contrasting trends among some counties

The premature death rate is getting worse in 44 of Kentucky's 120 counties and improving in 12 counties, according to a health rankings report released Wednesday.

Proclamation to remember World War I

April 6th 1917 -America declared war against Germany for the start of World War I. Mayor Bily Phelps proudly met with the Veteran of Foreign War Post 5837,  American Legion Post 151 & VFW Auxiliary to sign a Proclamation honoring the sacrifices of so many who have served from Morgantown and to encourage everyone to remember and commemorate our entry into World War 1.
