Campbellsville U. honors 190 teachers across 69 KY school districts for excellence in teaching

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Kentucky’s 2017 Elementary Teacher of the Year, Kellie Jones of Taylor County’s Intermediate School, urged the teachers to whom she spoke at Campbellsville University to “keep your passion for teaching” and “Students today need passionate and energetic influence in their learning and in their lives.”
Jones addressed the 190 teachers throughout the Commonwealth of Kentucky throughout 69 districts as they received Campbellsville University’s Excellence in Teaching Awards during the 31st annual ceremony Saturday, May 20 in Ransdell Chapel.

Flag Day Celebrated by Butler County Chapter NSDAR

The Butler County Chapter NSDAR held a program on the Courthouse lawn on Wednesday, June 14 in observance of Flag Day. Efforts began as early as 1916 to get Flag Day national observance. Finally, in 1949 President Harry S. Truman signed a Congress-approved Flag Day into law.

Green River Ramble draws crowd to the water

The Green River Ramble was held on June 3rd as a qualifying event for the designation of a certified Kentucky Trail Town.  The first day kicked off with about 40 canoers and kayakers hitting the Green River at Reedyville and Woodbury.  Food, entertainment, opening day activities at Green River Museum, and the Butler County Park dedication was available to floaters as they came into the Ruth Moore Boat Ramp at Woodbury.

Butler County Park and Blueway Trail Dedication

What started in 1974 as eight acres, formerly Green River Lock and Dam #4, has grown to 26 acres, the Green River Museum, and two boat ramps on the north and south side of the blueway on the Green River.  Known as the Butler County Park, the dedication ceremony was held on June 3rd.

Long-term lane closures in place on the Natcher Parkway in Bowling Green, Lane closures in place from Interstate 65 to exit 9 U.S. 231

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (June 8, 2017) – Long-term lane closures are in place on the William H. Natcher Parkway in Bowling Green from Interstate 65 to exit 9 U.S. 231 Morgantown Road. A contractor is performing major drainage and shoulder improvement work. When the drainage and shoulder work is finished, resurfacing will take place. The entire project is expected to be completed at the end of August.

Fatality Crash on Hwy. 185

The Butler County Sheriff's Department responded to an accident shortly after 10:00 am this morning one-fourth mile south of Corner Market on Hwy. 185.  According to Deputy Heath West Jacqueline Richardson, 78, of Leitchfield, Kentucky was traveling south in a silver 2009 Chevy Cobalt.  She went off the left side of the road impacting a tree on the driver's side of the vehicle.  She was pronounced dead at the scene by Butler County Deputy Coroner Brian McKinney.

Opening Day @Green River Museum

On Saturday, June 3, The Green River Museum and Butler County Park in Woodbury, Kentucky, held its yearly opening event. The historic site is continuously being restored to its peak in the early 1920’s. The Superintendent’s Office is open with photographs and artifacts that focus on the Green River and its impact on Butler County.

Local Store Owner Escapes Injury After Freak Accident

A Roundhill woman escaped injury this morning in a freak accident on KY HWY 185 in Warren County. Evelyn Raymer, owner of The Corner Market in Roundhill, was headed south around 8am today when a tree uprooted and fell on her SUV while she was driving.

"It was like it was happening in slow motion," she said. "It was surreal to see this tree falling and all I could do was try to stop."
