March Gladness nets over $10K for Boys and Girls Club

It was a busy day at Cool Springs General Baptist Church on Saturday, March 25, as many in the community took part in various events designed to raise money for the Boys and Girls Club of Butler County.  Most activities kicked off at 8 a.m.

Food was a theme throughout the day as event began with a pancake breakfast and concluded a spaghetti dinner later in the afternoon.  A silent auction was also conducted throughout the day.

A large crowd gather Saturday night, March 25, at the Butler County High School gym to enjoy a line-up of some of the best vocalists/musicians in the community.  Dubbed the "Butler County Opry," the event was headlined by Shera Lindsey, Kyle Whitaker, John King and the quartet of Mark Mudd, Scott Flener, Jacob Mudd, and Darren Lawrence with a tribute to the Oak Ridge Boys.  Greg Drake emceed the event.

Explosive Device Deemed Hoax, Investigation Continues

Russellville, KY (March 27, 2017)-  The Kentucky State Police Post 3 Bowling Green received a request for assistance from the Logan County Emergency Operations Center this morning at approx. 7:20 am to respond to the Logan County Justice Center in reference to a possible explosive device that was found adhered to a rear exterior door.

DUI arrest leads to additional charges

Belmont General Baptist Church

Tyler Jenkins, of Bluett Coy Road, Roundhill, Kentucky, was arrested and lodged in the Butler County Jail on Monday night, March 20.  Charges included careless driving, failure to or improper signal, and operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs .08-first offense.

The Morgantown-Butler County Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting in Rochester, KY on Saturday for Donna Wilson Realty, LLC, at the historic Green River Bank.  Family, friends and elected officials packed the bank, viewed the vault, told old stories and enjoyed refreshments.

After successful appeal, Butler Co. mother seeks new trial in infant death

MORGANTOWN – A Butler County woman whose conviction for first-degree manslaughter in the death of her daughter was overturned by the Kentucky Court of Appeals is requesting her case be retried.

Fiscal Court: Rural Secondary Road Program

Butler County Fiscal Court met on Monday, March 13th at the Butler County Courthouse with all five magistrates in attendance. With no old business on the agenda, the court heard from Tim Sharp of the Kentucky Transportation Department-Secondary Rural Program.  Joe Plunk, Justin Young, Mark Welch of the Transportation Department and Logan Lawrence (WKU student) was also in attendance. According to Sharp, Butler County has a total of $1,536,732.00 available for rural secondary roads.

Work to remove Green River Dam #6 to begin March 28

Upstream face of Ogee Weir Dam, Green River Dam #6

Green River Dam No. 6, near Brownsville, Kentucky, will be removed the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced today.  The removal will be performed by experienced dam removal personnel under an interagency support agreement between the Corps and the U.S. Department of Interior Fish and Wildlife Service.

Dam removal will begin on March 28. Removal and excavation of the site will take several weeks to complete. Removal is also entirely dependent upon having safe conditions with regards to the Green River's flow and height. Access at the site is limited.

MEETING REPORT: Butler County Board of Education

Board member Delbert Johnson, Blake Bratcher, and Supt. Howard

The Butler County Board of Education met in regular session on Tuesday, March 14, at 6:30 p.m. at the Butler County Education Complex. Board members Amy Hood, Ryan Daugherty, Delbert Johnson, and Aimee Sanders were in attendance. Debbie Hammers was unable to attend.
