Butler County to Benefit from 2017 Day of Caring

United Way of Southern Kentucky (UWSK) and Feeding America, Kentucky’s Heartland (FAKH) are teaming up to bring the “2017 Day of Caring” to Butler County on Wednesday, July 26.
A Mobile Food Pantry and food distribution will be set up at Morgantown Mission, 105 South Main Street in Morgantown at 10 a.m. UWSK volunteers will help sort, organize, and load fresh produce and donated grocery items for residents of Butler County.

Guthrie Announces Butler County Public Office Hours on August 4

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) today announced that he will be holding his public Office Hours event in Butler County on Friday, August 4, at 10:00 a.m. CDT.
 “Every summer, I am excited to visit every county in the Second District to hear directly from my constituents,” said Congressman Guthrie.  “There are a number of important issues facing our nation. I look forward to hearing the views of the residents of Butler County on August 4th.”

Morgantown City Council recognizes Hudnall, discusses city hall renovation, Main Street lights, and hears department reports

Morgantown City Council met on Thursday night, July 13th, at the Eva J. Hawes Building.  All council members were present. A short public hearing was held before the meeting in support of funding for renovations for city hall. The City of Morgantown is in the process of applying for a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) to secure the funds to remodel Morgantown City Hall.  The project would include an addition of an elevator and handicap accessibility. Amy Scott, of Barren River Area Development District, answered questions and is assisting with the grant-writing process.

Turpin New Assistant Principal at MES

Morgantown Elementary Principal Mr. J. Chad Flener and the SBDM Council members are pleased to announce the hiring of Mr. Toby Turpin as the new Assistant Principal of Morgantown Elementary.  Mr. Turpin replaces Mrs. Alicia McKinney who recently took a position in the Warren County School District at Plano Elementary where she serves at Dean of Students.  Mr. Turpin, along with his wife Tammy, live in the Auburn community of Logan County.  They have two children; Sadie, who is in the 3rd grade and Chase who will be entering kindergarten this school year.  Mr.

Over 400 gather on the Green River for official opening of Butler County North Park

Over 400 people gathered on the banks of the Green River on Saturday night, July 15, as county officials officially opened Butler County North Park. Located in the Leonard Oak community of northwestern Butler County, the main feature of the park are two newly constructed concrete boat ramps - one just above the old Woodbury Dam and another just below it.  The Woodbury and Leonard Oak communities of Butler County are separated only by the Green River.

Accident on Caneyville Rd. Sends One to Hospital

Around 4:00 am on Monday, in the 6100 block of Caneyville Road, Charles Christopher Clemons of Clarkson, Kentucky, wrecked his 2008 Chevy.  Clemons was traveling southbound when he fell asleep, ran off the road and hit several small trees before overturning.  According to Butler County Sheriff Deputy Chris Reneer, both lanes of Hwy 79 were blocked.  Clemons was transported to the Medical Center in Bowling Green with minor injuries by Butler County EMS.
Also responding to the scene were Butler County Rescue Squad, Morgantown, and 5th District Fire Departments.

State police to do collision analysis on I-65

The Kentucky State Police accident reconstruction team will be working periodically this week at the site of the Thursday-night collision on northbound Interstate 65 that resulted in six deaths.
