McDaniels arrested on drug charges, additional warrants served

On April 3rd at approximately 9:15 pm officers of the Morgantown Police Department and Deputies of the Butler County Sheriff’s Office, responded to 412 N. Main St about a subject with felony warrants inside.

Butler County among 32 Awarded Top “Gold” Status in Legends Campaign for Organ Donation

 

Butler County’s Circuit Clerk received top statewide recognition for outstanding efforts to increase education about organ donation.  These offices went the extra mile in supporting the mission of saving lives through organ and tissue donation and will receive additional acknowledgment during the Gift of Life Summit in Lexington on April 25.  The awards are supported by the Kentucky Circuit Court Clerks’ Trust For Life, a separate nonprofit dedicated to organ and tissue donation education in Kentucky.

Morgantown Butler County Tourism

The Morgantown-Butler County Tourism Commission met on Thursday, March 28th at the Butler County Courthouse.  Members Roger Southerland, Diane Dyer, Dale Willis, Brenda Longhofer and Jim McDaniel were present.
The financial report showed a balance of $12,768.73 collected from local motels with $9,768.73 available to disperse.  Monthly deposits were December 2018- $738.53, January 2019- $341.35, and February 2019- $438.25.
The commission heard from six groups requesting funding for a variety of projects promoting Butler County.

MPD Drug Arrest

On March 29th at approximately 8:44 pm, officers of the Morgantown Police Department conducted a traffic stop which resulted in the arrest of Kayla Marie Darity age 25 of Morgantown, KY.  Her charges include possession of a controlled substance 1st degree, 1st offense (drug unspecified) and drug paraphernalia - buy/possess.


Darity had two active warrants, which were also served.  She is lodged in the Butler County Jail.

Fields new agent at Donna Wilson Realty

Greg Fields, 55, has joined Donna Wilson Realty as a new agent. Fields, an ordained Baptist minister since 1990 and former owner of Morgantown Tire, recently retired from TVA. He now has his sights set on the local real estate market.

A Section Waverly School Road Set for Long-Term Closure for Bridge Rehab Project

UPDATE: The Waverly School Road Bridge Project has been delayed a week. The closure is expected to take place on April 8.

The bridge over Little Bull Creek will close next week

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (March 28, 2019) –  Waverly School Road in Butler County is expected to be closed at the bridge over Little Bull Creek beginning Monday, April 1. The closure is necessary to rehab the bridge to improve its condition and is expected to reopen in late May. This bridge project is part of the Bridging Kentucky Program.

United Way of Southern Kentucky collects record breaking number of items for "Feed the Need" for Local Food Banks

United Way of Southern Kentucky (UWSK) has collected a record breaking more than 137,200 items so far as of March 26th in a region wide food drive titled “Feed the Need” across Allen, Barren, Butler, Hart, Logan, Simpson, and Warren counties. This represents a more than 

37,000 item increase in donations from what was collected last year and the most that the drive has collected in any one year since it began

MEETING: Butler County Fiscal Court

Butler County Fiscal Court meet in regular session on Monday, March 11th at the Butler County Courthouse.  All magistrates were in attendance:  Stevie Givens, Kevin Phelps, Timmy Givens, David Whittinghill and Dillon Bryant.

The court presented the insurance reimbursement for Engine 50 to the Fifth District Volunteer Fire Department in the amount of $150,670.

City hears from BG Chamber CEO; operating hours for bars in city amended

Morgantown City Council met in regular session at the Eva J. Hawes Building on March 14th.  Council members Dustin Embry, Dionne Merritt, Sharon Johnson, Jason Gaskey, and Sterling White were in attendance.
