$25K requested for Andrea's House of Angels; Clerk, Sheriff return excess fees to court

Butler County Fiscal Court met in regular session on Monday, February 25th at the Butler County Courthouse.  All magistrates - Stevie Givens, Timmy Givens, Kevin Phelps, David Whittinghill, and Dillon Bryant were in attendance.
With no old business on the agenda, the court heard from Jimmy Flener, president of People Who Care Ministry.  Flener asked the court for $25,000 for Andrea's House of Angels Pregnancy Center, a 501 (c) (3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization.  Andrea's House will be located at 105 E. Roberts Street in Morgantown. The 10,080 square foot, 16-bedroom facility will be a long-term (two to seven month) residential sober living, recovery center for pregnant women, their children and families working to overcome addiction. The total budget for the project is $1,428,350.  The target groundbreaking date is June 1, 2019. Flener took paperwork from Judge-Executive Tim Flener to complete and return to the court.  No action was taken by the court. 

Butler County Clerk Sherry Johnson presented a check for $193,440.29 to the court for the excess fees from her office.  Butler County Sheriff Scottie Ward presented a check for $75,000 to the court for the excess fees from his office.

Ellie Harbaugh, with United Way of Southern Kentucky, presented the annual results of the 2-1-1 Program to the court.  The court provided $3,000 for the 2-1-1 program last year and Harbaugh was asking the court's continued support.

The Court approved the following:

  • Payment to VEI Communications in the amount of $41,142.60 for 54 radios
  • The hiring of Warren Brooks for seasonal work at the Butler County Road Department @$13.47 per hour
  • Purchase of Shelter Management Program software for the Animal Shelter in the amount of $348 and attendance to a conference
  • Payment to R & R Electronics to purchase two computers for the treasurer and finance officer at $520 each
  • Butler County Clerk's budget amendment
  • Butler County Sheriff's budget amendment
  • Butler County Sheriff's 2018 fee settlement statement pending final audit
  • Transfer $25,000 from General Fund to Jail Fund
  • Bills and transfers

The court went into closed session pursuant to KRS 61.810 (1)(b).
