Jones Sworn In As Immediate Past President

Marty Jones of the Jones Funeral Chapel in Morgantown, KY was sworn in as Immediate Past President of The Funeral Directors Association of Kentucky at their 139th Annual Convention held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel and the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville on June 8-9, 2021.  During this two-day meeting, 50-year-old firms were honored as well as 50 and 60 year Kentucky licensed funeral directors.  This was the in-person meeting of the Association since the 2020 Mid-Winter Confere

City park renovation & other pending projects are key parts of city budget

With the new fiscal year approaching, the city of Morgantown recently presented its 2021-2022 budget, which has been approved by the Morgantown City Council.

There are many projects that are pending over the last year and a half due to the pandemic.  Some of these projects include park renovations, street projects, and the MOGO program.  The city will also be taking on a few other ongoing projects this fiscal year.

Butler County to Pursue Work Ready Certification

Morgantown, Ky., June 18, 2021, County leaders announced today that Butler County will be pursuing certification in the Kentucky Work Ready Communities program. The certification program from the Kentucky Workforce Investment Board (KWIB) and the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet assures employers that a local workforce has the talent and skills necessary to staff existing jobs and to master the innovative technologies new jobs will require.

(FRANKFORT, Ky.) – New research funded by the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education (CPE) shows that more and more Kentuckians are heading to college to earn short-term certificates, particularly in STEM-related fields, skilled trades and health care.

New State Laws Go Into Effect June 29

FRANKFORT – Most new laws approved during the Kentucky General Assembly's 2021 session will go into effect on Tuesday, June 29. 

The Kentucky Constitution specifies that new laws take effect 90 days after the adjournment of the legislature unless they have a special effective date, are general appropriations measures, or include an emergency clause that makes them effective immediately upon becoming law. Final adjournment of the 2021 Regular Session occurred on March 30, making June 29 the effective date for most bills.

2021 Butler County Fair and other events slated for this summer

"Fun times for everyone" is what organizers are hoping many Butler Countians will experience this summer.  Many of those events will be a part of the 2021 Butler County Fair.  The fair will be taking the place of the Green River Catfish Festival this year due to unavailability of the city park.

In June, some events you can look forward to are the Green River Road Races, fishing tournaments, livestock show, and 4-H exhibits.

Bear Academy underway for local students; about 316 students taking part in summer program

To address learning concerns from the Covid-interrupted 2020-21 school year, the Butler County School District currently has over 300 students taking advantage of summer learning opportunities.

The "Bear Academy," the district's summer program, averaged about 316 students each day last week and it has gotten off to a good start.

Motorcycle chase and foot pursuit ends in arrest

You can’t drive a motorcycle recklessly and fast in Morgantown.  That was the message sent by the Morgantown Police Department last week following a chase, pursuit and arrest.
