Lawmakers present pre-filed bill to ensure critical race theory isn’t taught in schools

Rep. Matt Lockett, R-Nicholasville

FRANKFORT—Rep. Matt Lockett, R-Nicholasville, said he believes his bill, Bill Request 69 “will be one of the most vital pieces of legislation” that will be considered when the General Assembly convenes for its 2022 session.

According to Lockett, who is the bill’s primary sponsor, the goal of BR 69 is to ban the teaching and promoting of critical race theory in Kentucky’s public schools. The pre-filed bill was the main topic of discussion during today’s Interim Joint Committee on Education meeting.

The Coral Barn Boutique

The Morgantown Butler County Chamber held a ribbon cutting on June 29 at The Coral Barn Boutique. Owners Danielle Bryant and Amber Embry decided to open up a shop at 103 Ashley Plaza selling clothing and accessories for women, men, and children.

"We wanted to offer our customers a wide selection and sizes," said Danielle.

Kelly's Salon Re-Opening

Dreams do come true! 

Four years ago, Kelly McKinney made a sketch of what her salon would eventually look like and this past Saturday her dream was fulfilled.  The Chamber of Commerce, Kelly’s family, and friends helped with her Grand Re-Opening Celebration.  Kelly made a heartfelt speech about her journey, thanking the many people that have helped since closing in March of 2020 because of the pandemic.

The annual Kids Count Data Book on children's well-being, released June 21 by the Annie E. Casey Foundation and Kentucky Youth Advocates, again ranks Kentucky 37th in the nation for the overall well-being of its children.

United Way of SoKY announces over $24K in investments in Butler County

(June 25, 2021) - United Way of Southern Kentucky announced today that it is investing a total of $24,170 in Education, Health, and Safety Net programs and services for its July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2022 funding period in Butler County. Eight local programs provided through 5 service providers will receive the allocated campaign dollars and donor designations.

Butler County continues efforts to end transplant wait list

Monday, June 21, 2021 – As communities resume their favorite summertime activities, the Kentucky Circuit Court Clerks’ Trust For Life (TFL) continues its mission to educate Butler Countians to register as organ, eye, and tissue donors.  Driver licenses may be transitioning out of the Circuit Court Clerk’s offices, but Butler County’s passion for saving lives through donation and transplantation is everlasting.
