Jarrod Jacobs: "Tell It Like It Is"

I am sure we are familiar with this term. Sometimes, when people talk, they speak in a vague way. Some try to spare our feelings about certain issues and will not speak plainly. Thus, we may tell folks to “tell it like it is” and stop trying to spare our feelings. It is necessary that we say things plainly and understandably, especially in a situation where souls are at stake.

Andy Sullivan: Against the Grain

September 20 kicks off fall tv premiere week! The 697th season of Dancing With the Stars(ok, I think it’s 30) premieres Monday.  I have my eye on at least one cast member: WWE’s The Miz.  He’s very entertaining.  If you’re not familiar, get ready!

Having listened to some of the vaccination talk, I tried to remember all of the immunizations my children had received – and failed. I looked on the CDC website (https://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/vpd/vaccines-diseases.html) to refresh my memory and found an informative list. Many more immunizations than I expected were listed.

Cheryl Hughes: The Things I Wouldn't Change

Many times, I walk into the bathroom, after Garey has showered, and I see that the bathmat is still on the floor.  I stoop down, pick it up, and say to no one in particular, “I wish Garey would pick up the bathmat.”  Garey will tell you that most of the time, he does pick up the bathmat.  I will tell you that he is delusional.

Jarrod Jacobs: "What Is Your Life?"

In James 4:13-15, James asks the question, “For what is your life?” He answers by comparing life to a vapor or a mist that “appears for a little time, and then vanishes away.” Our lives are like that, aren’t they? They are brief at their longest. It seems we are only on this earth for a moment and then are bound for eternity. Thus, James’ question is a good one to ask ourselves.

Jim Waters: Reject corporate welfare's unknowns for proven practices

The special legislative session was touted as dealing with the coronavirus.

Yet another virus has been lurking around much longer than COVID to which legislators and bureaucrats of various political stripes seem particularly susceptible.

September means fall.  Fall means football.  A few years ago, I would’ve added that fall means festivals but, you know.  Thanks, Covid.  Last weekend, college football kicked off.  This weekend, it’s the NFL’s turn.  I usually do fantasy football but we decided as a group to bow out this year.  That was fine by me.  I only got to the playoffs and the championship game once in the many years we’ve been playing.

With Covid numbers rising, I’ve been preparing my stay-at-home entertainment – just in case. Last year most of us spent quite a bit of time at home. I hope we don’t see a repeat of that; but if we do, I hope to entertain myself with books, binge watching, and home projects.

Cheryl Hughes: Time's Up

When my sister-in-law, Charlotte, was babysitting her grandson, she misplaced her cell phone.  She panicked.  She didn’t panic because her son doesn’t have a land line, and she was afraid she might have an emergency.  She panicked because her son doesn’t have a clock.  Her grandson, a preemie, is on a strict feeding schedule, evidenced by the two typed pages of instructions on her son’s refrigerator.
