I have been trying to get myself ready for Thanksgiving and the coming days of eating. I don’t want to miss the great foods, and I don’t want to make myself miserable. So, I am working on my mindset. One day doesn’t ruin us: moving in a healthy direction is the main objective.

The fall season has arrived in the Bluegrass, and families are beginning to turn their attention toward the Thanksgiving holiday. In Frankfort, the 2021 interim period is nearing its end as lawmakers are eager to enjoy treasured time with their families this holiday season ahead of our return to the state capital on Tuesday, January 4, for the start of the 2022 legislative session.

Do you remember the line in the movie, “Sweet Home Alabama,” where Reece Witherspoon looks at the chaos going on around her and says, “You need a passport just to visit this state.”  It’s true.  You will find a different perspective in the state of Alabama, at least in the part where Garey grew up.  Time is a lesser commodity there.  Everyone has time, and it should be spent with abandon in order to save the greater commodity, which is money.  I remember when Garey’s dad, J.D., was alive, he said to Garey once, “It’s just your time,” when Garey

            God chose Jeremiah to be His prophet at a young age. He would go on to speak God’s word for the next forty years! When he began this work. Most are familiar with The Pointer Sisters’ song “Fire”.  But did you know it was written and originally recorded by Bruce Springsteen? It’s true! Bruce wrote the song in 1977.  It had its highest profile as a 1978 single by the Pointer Sisters. 

Leaves, leaves, and more leaves. I enjoy the colorful leaves of autumn. But for most of my life, I have not enjoyed the bare trees during winter. I am coming around to the rhythm of seasons, including colorful leaves then bare trees.

Way back in 2010, Pastor Paul Parks was trying to convince his 16-year-old son, Kaleb, that he needed to take a part-time job at New Image Car Care while he was finishing high school.  His son’s response was, “Why would I want to do that, I’m not going to be changing oil for the rest of my life.”  Kaleb had his sights set on college and a teaching-coaching degree.  His father finally convinced him, however, and Kaleb took the job at our shop.

Not only was there a General Fund revenue surplus surpassing $1 billion during the last fiscal year, which ended on June 30, but the state’s Consensus Forecasting Group is estimating an even greater overflow for 2022.
