Patty Craig: A Slice of Time

Online shopping has become a way of life for most people. A Pew Research article by John B. Horrigan reported that the number of online users either buying or researching products online since 2000 has roughly doubled (https://www.pewresearch.org/internet/2008/02/13/part-1-trends-in-online-...). Since online shopping has increased, I assume online-purchase problems have also increased.

Cheryl Hughes: Life Expectancy

My daughter, Natalie, sent me a text with a picture attached.  The picture was of a hummingbird.  She had drawn it freehand.  It was beautiful.  The text said, “My whole life I was never able to draw.  I approach 40, and it’s a miracle!”

“You gotta get something outta turning 40,” I texted back.

Jarrod Jacobs: “God Said It; That Settles It; I Believe It

The statement, “God said it; I believe it; That settles it,” has been popular for some years now. I am sure most of our dear readers have heard this phrase from time to time. It has been on multitudes of bumper stickers, bracelets, and the like. In fact, one book I own has this phrase at the end of every chapter! It is a good thought, and I appreciate the sentiment expressed.

The modern summer blockbuster began in 1975, when Steven Spielberg made us(well, not me because I was 4 years away from being born)scared to go into the water thanks to Jaws.  Since then, Spielberg has dominated the summer movie seasons with movies like Raiders of the Lost Ark and Jurassic Park.  As of last year, since there was no summer movie season, here are the top 10 highest-grossing summer movies of all time. According to www.businessinsider.com

‘Anniversary’ is defined as the date on which an event took place in a previous year. My first association with the word is wedding anniversary. Over time, I’ve also begun to associate ‘anniversary’ with the loss of loved ones.

First, thinking of wedding anniversaries, I found some related quotes:

Did you know there is a patent on the fitted sheet?  The patent was granted to Bertha Berman on October 6, 1959.  Ms. Berman’s sheets had the corners sewn so they would fit to the mattress (mentalfloss.com).  You can even see the drawings Ms. Berman submitted with her application at patents.google.com.

There was also a patent issued for the improvement of the fitted sheet.  In 1990, Gisele Jubinville created deep corner pockets that stay put.  She sold her patent in 1993 for a cool million dollars.

Jarrod Jacobs: What is the Church of Christ?

Last week, we studied about the church of Christ and learned that the church was founded by Christ and is made up of Christians (Matt. 16:18; Acts 2:47, 11:26). It is not a building. It is saved people (I Cor. 12:12-14). We learned about the organization, the work God gave the church to do, and even that the church of Christ only uses the Bible, and not man’s ideas, for its rule of faith and practice (I Pet. 4:11).

Cheryl Hughes: The End of the World as We Know It

I was eight years old the first time I heard a conspiracy theory.  JFK had just been assassinated.  At the supper table, my dad was proclaiming with authority that the assassination had not been carried out by a lone gunman, rather it was a hit sanctioned by then Vice President Johnson.  I didn’t understand at the time that my dad’s theory was just one of many about the shooting of JFK.  I just thought it was my dad telling us, yet again, how much smarter he was than anyone else.
