Because I enjoy cooking, I love recipes. I found the recipes below in a “Celebrating 60 Years, 1938-1998” cookbook provided by Warren Rural Electric Cooperative Corporation (WRECC). The recipes span those years, and the book has 623 pages. I believe my late husband picked it up.

Did you know there is a YouTube video on how to give a kitten an enema?  There is and it works.  I’m still taking care of the motherless kittens I told you about in my last column.  Social media really has an upside in times like these.  When it’s good, it’s really good, but when it’s bad…well, you know the rest.

Halloween is upon us! Halloween’s origins date back to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain (pronounced sow-in).  The Celtics, who lived 2,000 years ago, mostly in the area that is now Ireland, the United Kingdom and northern France, celebrated their new year on November 1.

As the cold-weather months approach, I have turned my attention to my indoor plants. Each year I learn new-to-me information about various plants. Recently, I have tried to keep the plants below alive and thriving.

Our cat, Figaro, passed away a couple of weeks ago.  He was nineteen years old.  Figaro was the last of the cats that came to live with us while our daughters still lived at home.  I counted that I have had cats in my house for nearly 25 years.  That is a lot of cat litter to be emptied.  I told Garey that I don’t want anymore cats in the house, and it’s not just because I’m the one who empties the litter box.  I don’t think I’ve got any strength left to grieve for another animal that passes on.

Jarrod Jacobs: "Doctrines Not Found in the New Testament"

The word “doctrines” means “teaching.” In other words, some people attribute doctrines to the New Testament that are not there. In our last article, we saw that attributing doctrines to the New Testament when they are not there is not a new problem (Matt. 15:8-9). We also saw three doctrines men teach (salvation by faith only, instrumental music in worship, baptism is unnecessary) that are nowhere to be found in the New Testament.

Jim Waters: School choice's legacy: Segregation or integration?

A recent Wall Street Journal article by Phillip Magness of the American Institute for Economic Research exposes how opponents of educational freedom’s claims that the history of school choice is tainted by racism not only are factually incorrect, but that it was choice antagonists who fought to preserve segregation in public education.

Every artist has a favorite song or artist.  It’s an honor and exciting when said artist gets to cover one of those favorites and/or classics.  For instance, there have been at least three popular versions.  Billed as “The Loco-Motion”, it’s a 1962 pop song written by Gerry Goffin and Carole King.  The song was written for Dee Dee Sharp but Sharp turned it down.  The song has appeared in the Top 3 thrice, each time in a different decade.  In 1962, pop star Little Eva took the song to #1 in the U.S.  In 1974, Grand Funk Railroad recorded the song.  Their version also hit #1

My mom shared an article with me by Tim Thornberry, editor of the Kentucky Farm Bureau News. It was entitled “Down the Backroads: Kindness Really Is a Way of Life in Kentucky” (August 2021). Thornberry identified the friendly wave of the hand as a way of showing kindness. Showing kindness or courtesy to others is still fairly common in Kentucky.
