Patty Craig: A Slice of Time

With Covid numbers rising, I’ve been preparing my stay-at-home entertainment – just in case. Last year most of us spent quite a bit of time at home. I hope we don’t see a repeat of that; but if we do, I hope to entertain myself with books, binge watching, and home projects.

First, books and Sudoku puzzles are my favorite leisure activities. Books are plentiful at my house - most of them are mysteries. I often purchase used books online. Sudoku puzzle books are stashed away, too. Between these two activities, I can easily entertain myself any afternoon.

Second, I want to develop a to-be-watched list. My younger granddaughter and I have been watching The Crown on Netflix this summer, and last winter we watched Longmire. I enjoy binge watching a well-written series. So far, my to-be-watched list includes only Yellowstone and Justified, but I’m sure there are more series worth watching. When binge watching, if something isn’t worth the time, we can simply move on to another program.

Third, I am entertained by home projects and have started a list of things I might be able to accomplish. So far, those projects include hemming and putting up curtains in an upstairs bedroom, painting a bathroom ceiling, reworking a kitchen cabinet, and finishing a holiday table runner. Not only will I enjoy these projects, but they are beneficial.

The Serenity Prayer says: “God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.” I cannot change what the future may hold, but I can be ready to entertain myself should I be home more than I’d like. And books, binge watching, and home projects are my personal entertainment tools.
