High school athletics has been a hot topic the last few days following a proposal put forth by BCHS Principal Patrick O'Driscoll, a former coach himself, and approved by the school's SBDM council.  To combat budget woes, the measure would eliminate seven athletic teams at the school, as well an assistant coach from each remaining one and rein in transportation costs.  Needless to say, a proposal of this sort was met with much skepticism and criticism from many in the community.

Its very interesting how so many things in life come around full circle. Most of all, I think that our relationships happen this way. For instance, the parent/child relationship. Both sides of that relationship will come full circle.

I thought about calling this “Fire Down Below” but decided against it.  I received my Kindle Fire this past Christmas.  As much as I consider myself a techno-geek or maybe just a geek in general, I wouldn’t give into getting a Kindle or iPod.  Now I have both! Recently I thought, why not a top ten list of why a Kindle is better than a book”? So, here we go.

I, like many of you, watched the State of the Union address last week. Many of us may take this report for granted and grumble a bit about the interruption of regular television programming. According to Bill Carter (New York Times), the January 25^th State of the Union address had a decline in viewers compared to previous years. I was not surprised.

I see where the HARLEM GLOBE TROTTERS are, or were, back in our area recently.

When they were at the top of their success back in the late 1940s and fifties . . . and into the sixties, some of the sports "experts" said they were good tricksters and ball handlers, but they really couldn't play basketball . . . "Just a bunch of razzle-dazzle." The TROTTERS got wind of this and challenged that year's winners of the NBA to a game. The GLOBE TROTTERS BEAT THEM. The NBA said it was a fluke. To prove it wasn't an accident, they played a second game. They beat the NBA champs again.

Testy: When I moved back from Texas in 2008, I assumed I would be able to jump back into the job market in Kentucky with no problem.  I had a college education, after all, as well as tons of experience.  Boy was I wrong!

I have come to the conclusion that there must be a medical condition which takes place while a man watches TV. That is unless I am the only wife in the world who has a husband that loses all his hearing ability when sitting in front of the TV. I'm thinking that it's a safe bet that I'm not alone on this one!

Drew Brees is the superstar quarterback for Superbowl XLIV.  However, he is much more.  I recently read his book, Coming Back Stronger, on my Kindle Fire I received for Christmas.  While reading the book, which I couldn’t put down, I realized Drew Brees is much more than a superstar quarterback.

Winter is not my favorite time. During this season, I watch the weather more than in any other. I have a need to know just how uncomfortable I’m likely to be on any given day.

In the fall, I read long-range predictions for winter weather. Although, meteorologists can only make an educated guess, their long-range predictions are fun: I like to see what they get right. Below, you’ll find my understanding of some long-range winter weather predictions.
