Tiffany Hampton: Life in Logansport

Its very interesting how so many things in life come around full circle. Most of all, I think that our relationships happen this way. For instance, the parent/child relationship. Both sides of that relationship will come full circle.

As a young child, we are very dependent on our parents. A parent will feed, clothe, and bathe their child. Then that parent is helping with walking and talking. Once the child is a little older, the parents role loosens up a bit. The child has became more independent, although still needing their parents to help with writing and reading that comes along with the child's school career. A parent will put many miles on the family vehicle in the next several years. From ballgames, to sleepovers, to birthday parties, to trips to the doctor.

As the children grow older they become less dependent on their parents physically. Yet they do depend on their parents more for learning about life, and getting important advice. Before the parent knows it, their children are grown and then becoming parents themselves. Eventually, those roles may end up swapping.

The parent is now being cared for by the child. Just as the parent once fed, clothed, and bathed the child, now the child will help their parent in the same manner. Just as with the writing and reading. Maybe the parent doesn't drive anymore, so now the child becomes the driver. This is what I mean by coming full circle.

Our parents take care of us as children, and later in life, as children we take care of our parents. It's that in between stage of life that's amazing. The stage that allows you to take care of each other, learn from each other, and laugh at each other.
